i5 2500k vs phenom II or wait for ivy bridge?

Get the 2500k as cheap as you can and if you decide you want to go IB at a later date you could always sell the SB. As already said the 2500k is suuuuper :) You'll not need to upgrade for quite some time.

This means nothing to real world users and gamers really does it? Enthusiasts and benchmarkers would love these results but for everyday use you ain't going to notice that big of a difference.

Just like how the Q6600 did and is still doing!

My Q6600/4gb ram is starting to lag behind with heavy fps games at 1920x1080. I noticed in games like Tera that shadows and characters load more slowly. This also happens in WoW and SWTOR.

The real dilemma im having as the OP is whether or not IB is any better for games than SB 2500k.

Because I believe that if I am going to buy something I will do so with the best hardware around and z77 motherboards are just round the corner. I am not sure about IB Cpu's

Well im playing at 5760x1080 resolution. And i will be putting in another 7950 for crossfire in the near future. I will need a CPU that can handle this.

Then definitely wait for IvyBridge to see what it can offer you. If it is not worthy you can still get 2500K/2600K probably even cheaper :)

I think if you can wait , then wait. I'm pretty sure you would notice the difference going to a 25/2600 over the phenom but with the newer tech just around the corner I wouldn't dive in just yet.

this. there will be very little difference between SB and IB in games terms I believe, but if prices are similar, then either SB might drop, or you can get newer tech for similar price. be crazy to rush in now when its only a couple weeks away.

My aim is always to hang on to whatever I have for as long as possible so that I get the newest tech. Don't upgrade for the sake of it.

The best thing to do in your situation is to try your new GPU for a few months and see what performance is like. I can't see a 3.8 quad core bottlenecking it though.

I'd personally hang onto that processor for a bit and wait to see what ivy bridge brings. Honestly, I don't see how your cpu can be bottlenecking you that much at 5760x1080. I really think the difference will be fairly hard to notice. It'll definitely last until ivy bridge.

You would get better fps, especially minimum fps with a 2500K. But considering ivy is out soon i'd wait for that.

I still have a Q6600 @ 3.2ghz with a 5870 for FSX and X-Plane. I was going to build with a SB 2500K, however I have decided to wait for IB. Is there likely to be long to wait for the K series?

I was planning to go IB from my 1090t BE @ 3.6, is it worth do you think or try to push the 1090t a bit more?
