i5-760 OC

right well if you wanna give your 3.8 oc a run then, leave it as is and see what the vcore is, do a bit of a stress test....

you'll possibly see mid/hi 70's on the temps tho after a while, it'll just depend on your cooler and ambient temps etc.

you can then keep edging the vcore back until it becomes unstable, bsod, no post etc then just push it back up one notch and give it a nice long run of prime

so prime95 works overkill? or will it be that kinda load for say BF3? and what else effects temps apart from OC speed?

prime runs your 4 cores at 100% pretty much constantly, next to nothing in real world application will do this.

ambient air temperature, case cooling, case air flow, how well your TIM is applied, there are many different things that will affect you temps

ill keep this 3.6ghz running for another 45 mins, so far its 66/67c all the time, i might try 3.8ghz after but if im gonna be in the 70's its not advised is it?

i think of the top of my head the max temp for the i5 760 is 100ºc- don't quote me on that tho, but i know when i started to look into oc'ing my 750 i was advised to keep it below 80ºc and as such i've always aimed for 70ºc

i know @3.8 my 750 settles around the high 60's, low 70's but that's with a venomous x cpu cooler and 2 x akasa vipers in push/pull

and my vcore is about 1.3 or there abouts, haven't tried lowering it yet tho

Ill try lowering vcore a notch and going back to 3.8ghz and run prime for 2-3 hours. I've seen people say for 12 hours but shouldnt you run it for however long you know your be at a high load? like me id say gaming for 3 hours max and i dont do that often.

I needed 1.29v for my 760 at 200x20 but I run it at 1.33v for 200x21.

I'd keep it below 80, my preference is never above 75.

Prime running for 3.8ghz and highest temps so far 70/69/70/68c otherwise its about 66/68 a lot of the time and cpu-z is jumping between 1.2v to 1.216v, ill leave it on for a good while and see how it goes.

Looking good! Mine is at the same clock, and when folding 24/7 hits similar temps too.

well looking good so far, but yea i'd leave prime running as long as you possibly can. also did you manually set your vcore or have you left it on auto? just asking as if it was manually set it wouldn't expect it to be jumping up and down, tho someone may correct me on that, or it could just be cpu-z playing silly beggars

Yeah i've set it manually to 1.18v but cpu-z always shows it higher i think. Its been warm here today also on the temp side of things.

I stopped it after 5 hours with no errors and the highest temps reaching 71/70/71/69c.

Nvm solved, BC2 was for some reason set to 1600x1200 and made my screen flicker badly when i opened it.

Couple of questions, is there a fast way of checking vcore is stable? and after my OC is stable shall i enable EIST etc?

you can try enabling them, but they may cause the oc to become unstable. only way to know for sure is to try. if it does become unstable try disabling them 1 at a time

with speedstep etc turned on vcore will vary as you cpu will downclock when it is not being overly loaded, and thus vcore should change too. without those enabled i just watch it on cpu-z and load up a few bits and bobs to ensure it aint jumping or dipping. but if you've set it manually it shouldn't change

I have the exact same ram, processor and motherboard, though with only a micro overclock to 2.9ghz just to get the ram working fully at 1600mhz. Naturally I later plan to try my luck with a much higher OC.

So I'm definitely viewing this topic with interest.

get her oc'd mate, the i5 750/760's are easy as pie to oc. if i can do it, believe you me, anyone can do it!

Its been running 3.8GHz fine but i just turned on my PC and then went and turned my PS3 on to play some clubs and i heard my PC restart itself and booted fine but it booted to 2.5GHz,
so i restarted and and went into BIOs and it said "blah overclocking or change in voltages" cant remember exactly what it was but it still had my OC profile loaded so iv'e upped the vcore and it loaded ok so ill keep an eye on it.
