i5-760 OC

Processor is here, just waiting on the Arctic Silver 5 :( i dunno if this is a stupid question but could i load the overclocking profile from my i3-530 and drop the multiplier by 1/2 and vcore by i dunno how much?

Ok its in and i've "tried" to overclock, i disabled EIST/CE1 etc, put it to 17x200 for 3.4ghz, QPI to x32, set Vcore to 1.2v and my RAM ratio to 6.0 so its running at 1600mhz, set RAM voltage to 1.6v and RAM something to standard.

CPU-Z:-

Core speed: 3400MHz
Multiplier: x17.0
Bus Speed: 200MHz
QPI: 3200MHz
Core voltage: 1.216v

MEMORY:-

DRAM Frequency: 800.0 MHz
FSB DRAM: 2:8
(CL) 10.0 clocks
(tCRD) 11 clocks
(tRP) 11 clocks
(tRAS) 29 clocks
(tRFC) 88 clocks
(CR) 1T

NB Freq: 3200MHz

TEMPS:-

Idle: 34-40c
Load: 66c

is this not abit high as im only at 3.4ghz?

I currently have the exact same mobo as you although i have the 750, i have achieved 4Ghz with no issues, i did post my exact voltage etc ages ago, ill try and find that for you and post a link.

I also have the same case :P

Cheers ill get the laptop so i can read it and ill give it ago :) btw i also have a decent £30 cooler not stock.

Im at the QPI/VTT voltage, how come it goes purple at 1.230v?

EDIT:

Just loaded them settings and im getting 40-44c idle and load they jumped straight to 72-75c, i think im going to reseat my cooler.

i must be doing something wrong, dropped multiplier to 19 so im at 3.6ghz, vcore is 1.296 on cpu-z and im still getting 40-43c idle and up to 75c after 20 seconds of prime95 (blend).

-------

Loaded optimised and load temps are 55/56c.

I attempted to OC my i5 760 more than 3.4GHz but didn't get very far because I wasn't using the right techinique. But I cbb to try again, and I have the SG03 case so airflow isn't great and temps will be to high anyway.

I've left it at 3.36GHz @ 1.06875v.

hey leezor, sorry i aint been in touch, been a hectic few days....

i see your i5 760 arrived

these temps are looking a bit high, esp the 75ºc load temps after just 20 seconds of prime. when you run prime does the vcore go to a much higher value than the 1.296?

as already asked, what cooler you got and is it definitely seated properly?

Well let me update as i've been playing in the bio's, im running it at 3.80ghz ( 19x200 ) vcore is staying at 1.232v while prime is on and hitting 66-70c after 2 mins (blend).

On the 3.8ghz i said above, i've had prime95 on blend running for about 5 minutes and im getting 66-68c and sometimes peaks up to 70c for a couple of seconds.

EDIT-

Been going for about 10 mins and its staying just below 70c with the odd 70c here and there.

well personally i'd wind the oc back to 3.6 and let prime run for a few hours (or as long as possible) and monitor temps and to ensure that you dont get any bsod. if the temps start getting too high, personally i prefer to keep them below 70ºc, you could try setting the vcore manually to a lower max value.

i'd keep doing this until i was happy with the temps and then move the oc up a notch

core volatge is at 1.232v, so drop it to 3.6 and drop the vcore aswell? try 1.8v maybe?

EDIT:

Im in BIOs and my voltage goes as this:

Load-Line Cal: Enabled
Vcore: 1.18v
QPI/VTT: 1.350v
PCH Core: 1.120
CPU PLL: 1.860v
DRAM Voltage: 1.560v

yea, give that a try and see how it goes....

woah just re-looked, i don't think you mean 1.8!!

least i hope you don't!!

try 1.2

yeh sorry i meant 1.18v and temps are about 65-67c and jumping to 68c at times, only a couple of degree's different to 3.8ghz? also i normally have my pc on for about 12 hours.

so prime95 works overkill? or will it be that kinda load for say BF3? and what else effects temps apart from OC speed?
