When buying a low budget i5 is it a simple case of ivy is better then sandy?

Right now I have 170 to spend in PayPal :p and do t really wan to add to from the bank if not needed. So what the best i5 I can get.

Also is there anything I need to wait for before buying because every time I do but something new comes out the next day

Regardless of budget when talking about equivalents Ivy will be better than Sandybridge because of improved IPC, PCI-E 3.0 support, better iGPU, less power usage.

3570k > 2500k
3770k > 2600k

Of course it's a different story when talking about overclocking :).

Ivy can easily overclock to 4.5Ghz with no issues and that's about the same as a 5Ghz sandy which not many can get, while nearly all K ivy chips easily get 4.5Ghz. If you mean the high temps that only really comes when pushing past this, much like sandy pushing past 5Ghz.

Ivy is better in all departments, except probably price, but you're getting a little more for the premium over sandy.

Thanks for your input. So ivy is the way to go
