A lot of people seem to ask whether or not certain upgrades are worthwhile. These videos should help out

i5 Comparison

i7 Comparison

Interesting watch.

Makes it seem like for a pure gaming rig when comparing the i7's the 6700k is actually a performance delta better than the 5820k. But for productivity the 5820k is the one to go for.

2500k vs 6700k BF4 difference: 30fps
2500k vs 6700k Crysis3 difference: 34fps
2500k vs 6700k FC4 difference: 38fps
2500k vs 6700k GTAV difference: 24fps

Quite a large leap them!

Probably the biggest take from this is that minimum fps will be much more consistent on the 6700k compared to the 2500k.

Well i ordered a new 6700k from a 2500k Upgrade setup and i cant freaking wait... Its going to be so nice to have a "new" computer.

Ill still be using my 780 gtx until the smoke clears and ill be replacing that in july with whatever is considered "awesome" then. im guessing a 1080.

Ill probably fold before that and get one as soon as i can :P

Posts like this make me want to upgrade my 2500k :D

Lol, are these benchmarks clock for clock comparisons? If not they are useless. Most people here will be over clocking these CPUs and a SB CPU will easily outclock a Skylake CPU and at that point the difference is minimal.

If GTX970 dont bottleneck there is masive gain in games like crysis3-more than twice faster than 2500k
watchdogs 60%
skyrim 47%
WOT 37%
Witcher3 37%

sandy bridge in fact does not out clock sky lake, they both clock to around the same speeds.

Hmm. Not sure I've got a 2500k that hits over 5Ghz no problem. I've never seen a Skylake chip capable of matching this chip.

Also for some unknown reason people gimp the crap out of older DDR3 system with 1600Mhz memory and then make gaming comparisons to systems with uber high end graphics cards.

I'd say it's slightly higher. I'd also say that many people over clocking skylake don't have stable overclocks. My experience with over clocking skylake has been quite unusual.

have 4.6ghz with 6700k @1.315 no problem, havn't even tried pushing the volts down yet.
what board are you using?
edit: theres an average chart around here somewhere that shows people with 5ghz clockspeeds
edit2: 6700k 5ghz overclock here:https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29016557&postcount=6

When I say 5Ghz plus I mean well over. Like a 5.1-5.2 daily use. 5.4-5.5 capable.

I hunted for a 5Ghz+ Skylake i7 for months. They are very rare beasts indeed and only a few of those can do 5Ghz 24/7 and even then you have to push the voltage too high for my liking.
