i5 & i7 CPUs compared

How many people run past 5ghz to be fair, granted sandy might be able to clock slightly higher but on average they are roughly the same. Golden chips excluded on both sides.

Not owned a skylake setup, but owned 3770k, 4770k and 4790k. Clocked at 4.2ghz the 4770k was equivalent to the 3770k ay 4.5ghz. Slight ipc improvements between each generation of intel's mainstream chips. 4790k was basically just a speed binned 4770k.

Hmm, it shows a 4fps difference between a 2600k and a 3770k.....I went from an i5-750 to a 3770k and using the same graphics card at the time (670 I think) and there was absolutely no difference at all.
It all depends on the exact hardware you're using as to what the difference is. The GPU used in this demo seems to work best with the latest chip(s) I would say but when the 3770K came out the GPU's available back then might not have shown a diifference with the different CPU's

Iirc with the 3770k I used first one 670 then later sli. Theese cards were carried over to the 4770k setup. Later replaced with a 780 then sli again.

The only case I could see for the 6700K/Z170/3000Mhz+ DDR4 is maybe in dual graphics card set up's.

Maybe with a pair of top end cards like two R9 295's or GTX Titan X's 2400Mhz DDR3 and dual PCI-E X8 might become a problem.

From reviews the difference with x8 vs x16 pcie is extremely small, even across the various pcie generations.

Yeah I'm not saying the difference's would be huge, but it might show when running a pair of 8-10TFlops graphics cards working flat out.

have 4.6ghz with 6700k @1.315 no problem, havn't even tried pushing the volts down yet.
what board are you using?
edit: theres an average chart around here somewhere that shows people with 5ghz clockspeeds
edit2: 6700k 5ghz overclock here:https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29016557&postcount=6

15min of realbench, really? 5ghz is impressive, but I could quite easily get 4.9ghz on my 6700k @ 1.4v (actualy vcore, not VID like it is in those screenshots). Didn't mean it was anything near stable though.

I've got mine at 4.7ghz @ 1.38v, with max temp around 80C. This is high, but at least it can run a variety of stability testers for several hours, not just 15 min. Still, I think on average Sandybridge was a better overclocker, with far better temps. Skylake gets insanely hot for the same clock.

Max I've seen is 60 with my 4.6@ 1.315. the temps are bound to be higher with paste instead of solder. My 2500k ran hotter though and couldn't break 4.7.

what you must remember i can say this with knowing many who frequent many forums is take all with a pinch of salt.

many wont run at what they say. will add on extra 100 hz just for the lols. or show the benchmarks they never use run actually at 24/7.

be happy with your build just enjoy it.

what will say is those on older platforms sandy and ivy there is big differences. even if you clocked or not. some notice them or dont.

So basically I need to wait until Zen/Kaby then consider upgrading? Hoping for a mainstream 8 core for under £350 with skylake IPC this will be when I upgrade. (In years) :D

Hmm. Not sure I've got a 2500k that hits over 5Ghz no problem. I've never seen a Skylake chip capable of matching this chip.

Also for some unknown reason people gimp the crap out of older DDR3 system with 1600Mhz memory and then make gaming comparisons to systems with uber high end graphics cards.

Reason being is that a lot of us that own Sandy/Ivy got it back in 12/13 when RAM speeds were hard to get over 1866mhz and expensive so we just got 1600mhz now it is starting to hurt us slightly.
