I'm looking at getting either a 15" or 17" MBP. I'm pretty set on the faster hard drive already (none SSD) but I'm wondering if I should go with the i5 or pay extra for the i7? It will be used for watching films, browsing the net and Photoshop. I also use greasemonkey within Firefox to run some intensive scripts on some web pages. Is it worth the extra for the i7? Also, which panel, the standard one or the non-reflective one? Cheers.

I got the i7 15 inch MBP and havent used the power of it to be fair at all. Its also not a true quad which is highly annoying as its just a dual core with hyperthreading.

I'd say save the cash and go for the base i5 - it's what I did and haven't regretted it once.
Only reason to go for the i7 15" is that it has 512MB VRAM instead of 256MB if that's needed.
Went for the antiglare screen too - not keen on glossy.

I have an i7 with SSD. If I were you, I'd save the cash and get the i5, and then later update to an SSD.

i5+SSD will whip the ass of an i7 with a standard SATA drive.

agree with guys i7 isnt need but a ssd is a better idea
havent even started to use the i7 but for me i went for graphics over everything else seeing as steam is on mac now, but even then think i should have got a ssd instead. defo want anti glare makes viewing back on led/lcd screen a lot better

I got the i5 and it seems that would be fine for you given your requirements. It would probably be a better use of the extra cost to upgrade other parts after market like the RAM and maybe the HDD.

As for the screen. I went with the hi res glossy as I seem to be one of the few who prefers the finish of the glossy screens over matte and don't mind reflections or glare (which is rare as you can just orientate yourself to combat this).
