Hi All,

Quick question if i may :P
Looking to buy a new system from ocuk, question i been asking myself is do i go for the i5 7600k or the i7 7700k.

I don't do much gaming just a little BF4 now and again.System would be for everyday use email web the odd movie.

the system i am looking at is:-

Titan Osprey Overclocked Pro Gaming PC - Intel Core i5 7600K @ 4.9GHz Kabylake

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tita...-core-i5-7600k-4.9ghz-kabylake-fs-19g-og.html

Thanks in advance

I would suggest the system you have linked too is overkill for the odd session of bf4 and web/movie use. You could spend half that amount and meet your requirement.

Hi,

do you still have the system in your sig, and if so, is it still performing well?

tbh all I'd really upgrade is the graphics card, especially if you don't game that often anyway and are ok playing with some settings lowered

if the rest of the system is not holding up well, then you should check out this pentium

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1151-processor-retail-cp-62o-in.html

its a dual core with hyperthreading, so basically the same as the i3 range but around half the price, people are getting good results with it in games as per this thread:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18765750

obviously if you have money to burn, and want a new system, then get one, but the system you linked is a lot more than you need to spend, based on the usage you described

The system in my Sig was given to my daughter a little while back. yea it is still going stron and does not miss a beat.

I am running a small Itx Amd A 10 7870k @ 4.4 just now, was looking to upgrade to a complete new system to allow me plenty of head room if my preferences change over the next couple years or so.

Wait for Zen.

+1

Zens coming with 4, 6 and 8 core cpu's with AMD's own version of hyperthreading so you should be able to get more for your money in 6-8 weeks time.
If you stay Intel I'd certainly go with an i7 rather than an i5, Comparing the i5's to the i7's in this video from the 2500k thread above shows that the i7 is a better buy for gaming if you want longevity.

If you need to upgrade very soon you'll be fine with the i5 for now. But looking longer term (for example if your gaming habit changes) i7 is the better bet.

As others have said might as well wait for Zen before deciding.

Even if it's not faster than a 7700k, it'll almost certainly be competitive on price.

See how much Zen disrupts the market before omitting - you might be able to get that 7700k system for a chunk less after Zen launches (end of Feb/beginning of March looking likely).

keep it, put fast ssd in if it has sata 6 and a more power efficient faster gpu and wait a couple of years. Buy that i7 now and its will be replaced by then!

Wait for AMD Ryzen at the end of the month to make a decision, if you aren't in hurry.
