Hey

Soon to be buying an i5 2500k

and akasa venom cpu cooler
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-072-AK

8gb DDR3 ram and MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67

As this will be my first overclock, i wont be going for anything crazy.
Was thinking about going for a 4ghz clock to get used to what im doing then pushing to around 4.5ghz at a later date. Was wondering what you would advise me to do ?

Edit: Advise me as in what speeds i should look to OC to. Not advise as in the actual ocing.

I'm a newbie but 4.5/6 seems the norm... Judging by the prebuilt systems too.

I'm going to be doing it after a while, see how my 3.3 stock is first.

There's a good sticky at the top of the page about overclocking and voltages that the processor can handle.

These are the setting I used to get to 4.5GHz stable.

Copy them but change them to what overclock you want (core ratio, voltage etc):

AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
BCLK/PEG Frequency - 100

Turbo Ratio
By all cores (can adjust in OS) - 45

Memory Frequency - 1600MHz

CPU Voltage - manual mode
CPU Manual Voltage - 1.27v
DRAM Voltage - 1.5v

PLL Overvoltage - Disabled

What i might be doing is using my soon to be old core 2 duo to get used to overclocking, so i can see first hand what all the settings do. Then going for about 4.5 on the i5.
