Mate is looking for an i5 system max spend £1200 wants to play all the new FPS games at max settings etc.

He has mouse, kb, sound, monitor so just the jucy bits.

This should do the job nicely. Included the SSD primarily for OS, but it is not needed. You could take that out and stick in two HD5850s instead of the two HD5770s for even better in-game performance.

Just built an i5 setup myself, I'd prob invest a bit more on the graphics card though, like a 5870. Corsair bundle looks great though.

But an i7 is a waste of money (in my opinion) unless you're doing tasks that utilize the hyper-threading capabilities.

And regards to the 5870, a 5850 matches and surpasses it with a slight overclock that takes about 15 minutes to set up, if that.

The 5770 is deffo good enough, just bought it. Awesome graphics :)

i7 is pretty awesome, got i5 and i7, you can defiantly see the difference I don't care what anyone says.

This is my i7 build, a little cheaper and more powerful ;)

I know the post is i5 but seems its not much more to get an i7 after all. He does do some encoding I just thought they were WAY more expensive.

Thanks again really do like peoples input. He likes the idea of the 5850 as he can aford it aned maybe SLI in 6 months if needed.
 
For £1200 you can build a very sweet rig, I would go with a single 5850 over two 5770's as there a some issues with crossfire and theres not much difference in performance between two 5770's and a single 5850. Get a UD4 mother with USB 3.0 and SATA III.

Think like most finding it different to get over the i7 Vs i5. He plays multi copies of games at once etc not sure if HT would help there. 4GB of RAM is not enough so would go for 8GB but will that hampa overclocking?

What do people think of the i7 build above or go back to the i5 people have recommended ?

Could probably do with a better motherboard but there's £100 spare to chuck that way. My opinion is i7 won't be worth the extra price, performance wise if he's mostly gaming paying all that money for a processor upgrade is a bit pointless. Stick to getting good graphics cards for ultimate performance in games. The i5 is also a good processor so can't complain really.

The GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 only does asymmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 16X/4X:

This is what it says on the Gigabyte website for the Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2:

" 1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) (The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
3. 2 x PCI slots"

I would read this article as it has a list of P55 motherboards which can do symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X:
