Just setup my new rig which is comprised of: -
i5 @ stock
MSI gd65
Noctua NH-U12P with mounting 1156 bracket
Arctic silver 5
ripjaw c7
4850

My idle temps according to core temp on xp 32-bit are around 45C-40C at idle.

I'm not sure on a few things.

1) I have the label of the fan pointing inward towards the heatsink is this correct?

2) I have bad cable management, I mean it's not terrible but it's not super clean - will this affect it much?

3) I live in the south of France and it's quite warm but not that hot, around 20-22C in the study is this a factor?

4) Is coretemp accurate, should I try something else?

5) Do I need to reseat the damn thing bearing in mind my e6300 C2D seemed to idle at the same temp!?

Check out realtemp as well so you can compare the temps.

Bad cable management does effect it but not by a huge amount.

20-22 is quite hot compared to the UK but again wont effect it a lot really.

I would say all of these things do add up so 40 sounds about right IMO.

Quick question how thick was the thermal paste you added, In my experience too much (eg thickness) thermal paste will ruin temps.

I actually added quite a small lump in the middle, but I just slammed the cooler on top and didn't bother 'wiggling' it about much to spread it around. I would say it was half the size of a pea, maybe slightly less.

Hopefully the temp won't increase too much as I clock it a bit later on today.

Will adding a second fan to the noctua do anything significant?

I've just put together a similar setup:-

Core I5 750
Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD4
2x2GB DDR3 1333mhz (9.9.9.24)
Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2
HD 4850

At 3.33ghz and with all energy saving features disabled and turbo off I am getting idle temps of 40c.

I'd be interested in comparing some 3dmark scores if you get time.

Hi guys, I've accidentally broken the Intel heatsink retention bracket on my Artic Freezer 7 PRO Rev.2, and ordering a new one from https://www.arctic.ac/uk_en/freezer-7-pro-rev-2.html costs £7.99! Does anyone happen to only be using the AMD clips and wouldn't mind posting me their Intel one if I PayPal them the cost of sending? Alternatively, I don't need my AMD ones if anyone wants them
Thank you!
