i5 vs i7 % difference in multi gpu

Minimums are a bit better with an i7, but tbh its more about cpu use and gpu use. In certain games, bf3 and 4 for example. Under an i5, cpu use is much higher but card use typically maxes at 80%. This is using 1080p for example, at higher res the gpu use does go a bit higher. On an i7, cpu use is lower and the gpu's run closer to full use much more. The game can feel a good bit smoother too, something that raw fps numbers can never convey. This is based on my use of an i5 3570k @4.5hhz and an i7 3770k at 4.2ghz with sli gtx 670's.

To my shame.... I haven’t even overclocked my 3570k yet...

Haven’t needed to yet, but what got me thinking is, last week I bought BF4 premium and on one of the new maps, I did a fast turn of the camera and got some slow down.

I haven’t seen slow down like that for nearly a year and was only using a single 670 all this time and now I have two 670's so I was surprised.

Could it of been the server causing the slow down?

It might have been just a random jitter. BF4 isn't exactly known for rock-solid server performance...

I have a 580 which isn't quite as good as one of your 670s and a 2700K at 4.6. I've never had anything else in this system, so can't offer any comparisons. Having the hyperthreading of an i7 just gives you the confidence that your CPU is rarely going to bottleneck your system. Even if 50% of the time it isn't being fully used, it's nice to have it.

Running a 7970 in crossfire with a 7950. I can say you will notice some bottlenecking, but it's far from game breaking!

If you're all for getting the highest benchmark you can get out of your cards though, i7 all the way.
