i7 2600k only on 1 core

im exhausted my i7 2600k only running on 1 core at the moment

Bios is showing up as all 4 cores active
device manager is showing the 8 threads
msconfig advanced setting showing 2 processors
cpuid showing 1 core 2 threads
asus suite II showing up as 1 core 2 threads
operating system windows 7 ultimate
tried reseating cpu few times checked for bent pins none
tried different psu 600watt nothing same problem


for the system to install windows ive had to put it to 1 core in bios install windows and adjust bios up a core each time for windows to recognise it, bios up to all cores but only shows 1 core 2 threads at most

setup consists of
cpu:-i7 2600k
board:- asus p8p67-m prov rev3 with latest bios
ram :- corsair vengeance 4gb 2000mhz
HDD:- barracuda 500gb sata drive
PSU:- storm 900watt

any clues as im at my wits end ive messed about with bios settings and windows settings but to no avail im thinking faulty cpu as when i got the cpu it looked dark on the left side like a burn mark but very faint so im thinking cpu damaged got it from well known auction site so im alittle peeved

Does Prime95 only execute 2 threads or 8 threads?

Does sound possibly like you've got a damaged cpu, especially if you've had to run one core only to install Windows Enact a paypal dispute if possible dude.

Set msconfig to 0.
2 CPU's = 1 core, and 1 HT core.

ive tried setting msconfig to 0 stalls on starting back up, ive got to go back into bios set it to 1 core restart windows then go back to msconfig set it bak to 2 then redo bios to 4, ive even tried resetting cmos and lettin it do its own but no avail this is a right puzzler

when i tried to install windows on all cores it hangs on the windows logo and does nuthing dont know if this helps with diagnosis

It stalls in what sense?
Put the Vcore to 1.35v in BIOS, with msconfig as 0. As at 2, it will only ever be 1 core 1 HT core in Windows.

Even though it sounds damaged.

Set the msconfig to 0 moved cpu voltage and it wont gonpast the windows loading logo

seller trying to make out cpu was fine when sold it to me and tht ive knack'd it not knowing wat im doin wat a **** more like hes been chancing his luck lol
