I loved my 980ti SLI setup, it performed really well and as long as most of the games you play support it I'd say its worth it. That was with a 5960X.

Personally i didn't want to go to dual card, even if most issues were good I just didn't want the hassle when many games dont support it well still.
Aside from that, the ultrawide- i have is freesync, and variable refresh makes a huge difference to quality of life with that many pixels
