Yes but 4770k is better and isn't that much extra to buy new.

Yep, still a very good cpu. But if looking to buy a new motherboard and cpu, you may as well go for the newer haswell 4770k. If however you already have a skt 1155 board capable of taking the 3770k it's a good choice.

AMD make the A8-3870K, but I'm guessing that isn't what you mean.

Intel Sandy Bridge-E Hex core Intel CPUs are the 3930K, 3960X, 3970X. Ivy Bridge-E hex cores are 4930K and 4960X.

There was an intel skt 2011 3820 cpu, but it was a non k 4core 8 thread model.

Think you need to double check what CPU hes selling you before we can advise, also is it just the chip or the Mobo as well?

What are you going to use the system for?
