Hi, about 6 months ago I upgraded to an i7 4790k cpu, this is installed on an Asus Maximus VII Hero, cooler is a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 2. I've recently upgraded to an EVGA GTX 980ti and an EVGA 750w G2 PSU. The case is an Antec 1100.

My problem is my cpu temp. When I first boot up it hovers around the 37c mark, but then after some simple browsing using Chrome, and youtube viewing it climbs to mid 60s and stays there. Then when I play games such as Witcher 3, Ark, Fallout 4 etc. it gets up to the late 80s and goes back to mid 60s when I've finished, even when it's at idle... I've not done any overclocking on either cpu or gpu... Is this normal? Oh yes, my gpu stays rock steady at 62c and 75c when gaming...

Thanks

Its a bit hot m8, i would firstly try running with the side of you case off, if this brings the temps down a lot then its probably just an airflow issue. If the temps stay high i would reseat the CPU cooler.

Thanks guys, that's the answer I was dreading, that cooler is a ball ache to fit... I might just bit the bullet and swap it out for the Corsair H80i GT 120mm All-In-One Liquid CPU Cooler, if it'll fit inside my case...

Thanks agan

Worth checking if the default VCORE on your mobo is correct, my gigabyte came with a very high VCORE set that you have to manually change or update the BIOS so you get the new default VCORE. Just in case as i was going around in circles when i had high temps. Then i found out about this.

If it's not overvolting and there is good contact between cpu cooler and cpu, then buying a inferior h80 over your current superior cooler will not change the temps one bit.

The problem sounds like the tim between the die and the ihs.
My friend bought a 4790k a couple.of months ago.
When he first put it all together stock clocks stock 1.27v he was getting temps of 90's in gaming and 100c in ibt or anything intensive using a gt110i wc.

He delidded it and put liquid pro on, he now has temps in the 50's-60's for intensive apps, and 40's when gaming at 4.8ghz using 1.31v.

So its been a week, you reseated the cooler yet?

It cant be that bad. I have a Noctua D14, and I had to reseat that like 5 times in a week, cost me blood and everything :P
