i7 7700k

I saw that it was compatable with my motherboard on asus site but on ccl computers in the write up for this cpu it says it's not compatable without a bios update which requires a skylake processer to do it?? I'm sorry I'm fairly new to computers

That could well be the case but without knowing what bios came with it from the factory its hard to say.
You could always take it to a local shop to do for you or ask a friend to borrow you a cpu for an hour.
Otherwise you could get a 6700.

Yes - but depends on what games you play, and the resolution you game at - my i7 4790K build in my signature developed a fault so am currently using a new Z170 board I found on offer, a cheap secondhand i5-6500 and my original 1080 graphics card. For what I'm currently playing (mainly Overwatch and indy games) it's happily pushing 2560x1440 144hz all the time - but would undoubtedly struggle with something like the Witcher 3 with all the fancy setting turned up.

Well I only normally game in 1080 I have a 1060 6gb gpu and a i56400 ATM I play a lot of games like pubg and want to play destiny 2 just want a good cpu that will work well with my gpu

Ok cool thanks I will look into one of those unless you or anyone else could recommend a different cpu to go with my asus h170 pro gaming board and my 1060 6gb gpu.

In games that use more than 4 cores, yes. Mostly you won't tell the difference, especially as you are not overclocking.
I don't think you will see much return for the £300 outlay.
