Ive found a all in one pc with these processors in, is it worth paying a 3rd more for the I7 over the I5 for the pc? and the ryzen all in one doesnt have a intel optane(of course) or a ssd in would this affect things a lot it just has a 7200 hdd

Ill be using it in a all in one for some gaming but mostly lots of google pages and youtube.

The Ryzen 5 3550H is a 4 core, 8 thread mobile CPU, while the i7-8700T and i5-8400T are both 6-core desktop CPUs, but the 8700 has hyperthreading (so it has 12 threads). Both are pretty old now, so you'd be buying into an obsolete platform I'm afraid.

The clock speeds and turbos of the 8700T and 8400T appear to be rather similar (though I'm not sure if this is true when in use), which would suggest it's only a question of threads. Does web browsing and YouTube need 12 threads? Not really. Do games need more than 6 threads? Not really, not most games anyway. But, this could and is likely to change in the future. That said, if you're using the IGP (and the graphics card can't be upgraded), then it wouldn't matter, because none of the newer games will be playable on an HD 630.

Having no SSD would have a big impact with how snappy the system feels, especially if it only has 8GB or less RAM with Windows 10.

I have no idea about the impact of Intel Optane.

The onboard graphics of the Ryzen 3550H are likely to be MUCH faster than the i7-8700T and i5-8400T, to the point that many games are playable which are not on the Intel.

FYI: I got all my information on the 3550H from the interwebs, so don't sue me :D

From what I can gather, the Intel HD 630 (I assume that's what you mean) and AMD R5 330 are pretty similar and they're both really awful. If you want to do any respectable integrated graphics gaming you need a recent high-end Ryzen with Vega, there's no way around that. I suspect the physical limitations of an AIO are forcing the compromises because they're not designed for gaming. Something like the HP 24-xa1009na would give you okay gaming performance because it has a Ryzen 3750H with Vega 10, but it's only a 4 core CPU. The new Renoir 6-cores look a better choice. None of these IGPs are capable of playing proper games at Full HD / 1080p though, even a 4700H, you'll need a graphics card for that.

I'd consider getting a cheap AIO for your desktop needs and buying one of the new consoles, the compromises won't matter then.

Thanks for the information - would it be easy enough to upgrade the memory presuming therea a slot free in the HP one you mentioned?

In theory, yes, but I've never tried upgrading an AIO, so I have no idea how difficult it is. If you plan on using the IGP for games you'd have to upgrade it, because single channel mode murders their performance and most OEMs will only install 1 stick.

Can you upgrade the graphics on these HPs though?
