i7 920 @ 4.4 ghz

The heat and power draw for a [email protected] wasn't something I wanted to live with on my gaming rig. I believe I settled with 4.0Ghz HT On. This was fast, survived torture tests and still let me run my Noctua fans at low speed.

Like the others have said super benchmarks are one thing. Practical use is another.

Just running prime95 and the 4.4ghz going strong with new bios firmware F13j. I had to access bios via my HTC Desire mobile phone (with gigabyte Cloud OC) to check the bios all cores temperature were 89C, 90C, 84C , 90C except the realtemp was reading 95C, 96C, 90C, 96C. The cpu temp at the biops was reading at 59C. Cloud OC can be found here: http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/MicroSite/208/cloud-oc.html

I had notice that the core 2 is the cooling side (look like I need to re-apply thermal paste again ?)

Here is my 4.4Ghz with 1 x viper fan with maximum speed of 1870rpm:

we do know this, hence our advice.

im sorry, i totally understand and appreciate the arguments for and against HT

but i fail to see why anyone would diasable such a major feature/capabilty of their system.

its like having two graphics cards and disabling SLI/crossfire

each to their own, but i just find it totally bizzare
I can't vouch for games, but I'm sure my 3 x Virtualdub instances decreased in performance with HT on.

Don't think I could hold it at 3.6 either, some testing may be in order!

The latest UD5 bios is F13m. The latest BIOS allows 21 multi. This does not change the cpu multi of 20 of course, it just overrides the turbo setting instead keeping the multi locked at 21 instead of 20+1 if that makes sense.

I doubt re-pplying the pste will make much/any difference to the temp on a single core as the others look pretty unifrom. Those temps are a little on the crazy side though for my liking!

How long did prime run for (7 minutes is by no means stable)?

Slight of topic but is MX-4 THAT much better than AS5 or shinetsu Rich? Any ideas when you are getting some in stock?

You have used enough different pastes to know that max 3-4C between top brands :) Most of the time the difference is nothing for the paste but the 2nd attempt is put on better etc so you get the placebo effect of "oh i shaved 10C off my temps with my new brand"

not really
the case is pre filled

so you would need to drain it, cut the tubing to fir the gpu in

then refil it

that loop is designed for a cpu only
adding a gpu will stress that pump out and performance would be poor.

That being said, I must add that I ran the older version of that bayres pump and at 750lph its managed cpu/gpu no problem without a glitch for a couple of years, I only changed it because I thought it died when in fact the cpu block was clogged, I've still got one and it is a very underrated bit of kit imho.
