Hello,

I've had a go at overclocking my I7 920 - I started using the Asus Turbo app that came with my P6T M/b however it seemed to be pretty useless.

Used BIOS in the end, I read some guides from here and toms hardware and half the options on there i couldn't find on my BIOS -

So to cut a long story short, sorry I have a tendancy to ramble on. I've changed the clock speed to 162mhz x 21 - I have left all the rest of the settings for memory and voltage on auto and it i have a clocked speed of about 3.4.

The voltage seems to sit around 1.240 - is this ok?

also the temps seem to max out at around 75-80oc when under stresss tests using prime95 - This is cooled by air, althogh my cpu cooler fan has a max rpm of 880 so i can change this to a new one which should help a bit.

Cheers!

Id also try lowering your cpu voltage a bit as well, a lot of i7's will run 3.4ghz-3.6ghz on 1.2 vcore or maybe less, (1.18 here for 3.6ghz), auto voltage will be feeding the cpu more than it needs therefore raising temps, a slightly better fan may also help to improve temps.

ok cheers - thanks for your help - any suggestions of fans? the one I have is limited to 880rpm however it's also knackered the bearings are gone i think - was going to get the same make with a 1850rpm limit

Hi doggles,
I have an i7-920 and P6T SE.

I have a Noctua NH-U12P cooler so I am ready to clock (or should that be rock :D)

Please can you help me with BIOS settings?

I would be happy with 3.2GHz or maybe even 3.4GHz.
I would also like to get my RAM running faster as it's 1600MHz RAM but currently running at 1066MHz or something.

Kind thanks

i'm a real novice at this kinda thing, theres a good guide on toms hardware site i don't know if i;m allowed to post a link on this board to it so pm me -

i don't really know how to oc ram -

for the cpu all i did was set everything to auto except the vcore which i have a 1.16 and the clock is set to 180mhz - which gives me an oc of about 3.78 -

I believe with the p6t se bios the oc'ing settings are easier? not sure really i've just bimbled my way through it regulary worrying that my cpu was gonna pop :)

although it seems stable and runs at about 65 heat on full load.

you have to change the Mhz setting from somthing like 127 which is what mine was before i started to what ever cpu oc u'd like -divided by 21

i.e. 3.4ghz oc = 3400 divided 21 = 161mhz

from what ive been told and understand the lower the voltage running through the chip the better - mines ok at 1.16 hope this helps a little -

although there are many people on here with a vast knowledge of oc'ing - i'm the equivalent of a infant school child in the first year who can't spell very well today.
