I7 920 or i7 860

Get the i7 920 as Socket LGA1366 is better & cheaper.

If you dont game, what do you use the PC for? like PS, video editing, or general use etc...

I went for an 860 because it only needs dual-channel memory and for the lower power requirement. I wanted a simple overclock so I just set the clock to 167MHz instead of 133MHz and the multiplier to 22 instead of 21 - oh, look, it's now doing 3.67GHz instead of 2.8GHz. It's folding a large work unit on 7 cores which is a pretty good stress test and it's been going for three days so far so I suspect it's stable.

The only snag was that the cooler fan wouldn't fit over the Ripjaw RAM so I had to fit it to 'pull' which I'm not totally happy about.

Sorry guys encoding mostly i did think of i5 but might not be enough really. also i have case and video card so just mainly cpu memory and motherboard.

From what i have seen in reviews and real life the 860 holds it own if not better than the 920. The 920 is better in ways, its the OC king, but out the box the 860 is all over it.

If you crunching numbers at a normal Oc say 4.2 the 860 is the better buy. Will save you the coin and power.

This is the point were the 920 owners come forward :)

The 920 is faster in every way bar one. The 860 has a "better" turbo mode. As I don't value turbo at all I don't think this makes up for lacking triple channel, not overclocking as well, multiple x16 lanes and the upgrade route to hex core.

@Danny If you know you shouldn't link to it, what do you think you're doing linking to it anyway? The faq is pretty clear on this. It doesn't matter one whit if you agree with the rules, follow them or go elsewhere.

+1
You cant do that. It will get you a ban for sure. As good as your intention might be, your on thin ice.
