Hi guys,

Ive been having rather a lot of problems with my newest build recently..
Firstly I had ram problems with one of my modules dieing on me, then the replacement had address errors, I not have an error free set of Corsair Dominators 1600MHz.
I ran memtest86 V4.10 on these overnight for 8 hours 30 minutes and this brought the following results:

No errors! Perfect!

But I cannot run Prime95 or Intelburntest without it stopping due to hardware failures or errors, such as this:

I must stress that the system is NOT overclocked, it is running standard clock speeds apart from the XMP for the memory..

I am honestly at a dead end with this..
I dont know what to RMA, be it the motherboard or CPU.
Ive only had this build since January, and its been more hassle than its worth so far..
Back to the old E6230 I think :P

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Also.. under prime95 it BSOD'd, giving me the error PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.
Whats going on?!?!?!
The RAM is fine as far as im aware, and memtest backs this up for me as I only recieved iy yesterday after going through 2 sets of OCZ Reaper PC3-150000
Whats going onnnnn?!?! :(

Try running Prime or Ibt with your memory running at stock...not the xmp profile,if this fails try this.....
Take all your ram out and test 1 stick at a time in each and every slot for about 3 hours per stick.

Right well ive just set everything back to stock in the bios, including the XMP profile and Intel Burn Test was a success..
Does this mean I cannot overclock? :(
Or another bad set of memory again?
How come the memory survived 9 hours straight of memtest86 without a hiccup?
Yet for IBT it cannot?

Cheers for the responses!! :D

I had a similar problem with my i7 set up with OCZ memory, first set was faulty (showed up in mem test and windows failed to boot) 2nd set coursed similar problem to what your experiencing, in the end I purchased Patriot ram and this works a treat.
Returned the OCZ for a refund and Ocuk confirmed these were faulty.

Yeah same here, ive returned both sets of OCZ, and im now runnnig Corsair Dominators!
Yet memtest picks up no errors.
Intel burn test and Prime95 do...?

When I spoke to Ocuk Tech support regards my problem with the second set of ram they mentioned that the original set may of damaged the memory controller on the cpu, sent this back without the memory - should have sent!!! and this passed fine.

At this point I purchased the Patriot ram and new psu. PSU to rule out power problems.

Well well.
I have just ran IBT on Maximum and it passed with flying colours!!
Whaaat is going on? Hahaha.
Will run Prime95 overnight see if thats all good.
Im thinking of buying a new PSU, as im pretty sure thats the cause of my "cap squealing" noises coming from my computer lol.
Currently got a Corsair HX620 and going to the HX850 or the HX1000.

Sometimes when you run ram at stock you get no errors but when you overclock it you can get errors if its faulty....you should have no problem going say 3.6 on auto atleast(normally 4ghz)if this fails then something is faulty maybe, just rma your hardware if your not happy with it...also you may want to take pictures of your bios and post here when you do overclock so we can advise you on correct settings to try;)

Prime 95 on stock and see how you go first

Well, had a go at overclocking a minute ago, and this brought with it the following results..

whaaaaaaaaaat.jpg

All seems to be good!
175 BLK
1.25 Core Voltage
1.35 QPI
1.65 DRAM @ 14** (cant remember exactly)

Idles at around 45 degrees? is that right?
And on 100% load its around 72 degrees.

i believe PFN_LIST_CORRUPT is caused by a bad driver, incorrect memory timings, memory leaks, and finally unstable overclocking.
For more info read PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Also update all your drivers for mobo, chipset, gpus etc.

Go into start menu and type in the search box cmd and run it as administrator
then copy and paste this in sfc /scannow and press enter to confirm that your windows is not corrupted

Great! That sounds ok,but you could try lowering the qpi a bit...try 130,it wont hurt to try,or if your going to say 4.0 ghz try that and see how it is.

When your ready to be fully stable you need about 20 passes on Linx and a few hours on prime 95.
You can also use IBT and Occt also if you want to.

Just dropped the QPI to 1.3 and it handled Intel Burn Test on maximum no bother!
Brought the temps down too!
So im going to run Prime95 overnight and will post my results in the morning!!

Well I left it overnight on a 10 hour Prime95 run, zero errors, only just touched 74 degrees with 1.3 QPI, so happy with that!
Apart from the fact that I had to leave my windows and desktop fan on all night as I felt like I was being cooked alive!! Haha.
I have enver used Linx.. Can I ask what it is/does?
I suppose for now I will be happy with my overclock of 3.5/3.6 GHz.
Would I be able to go any lower than 1.25v for the core?
Im just interested in how low I can get the temps down, apart from a watercooling loop..
Talking about that, anyone recommend a cheap solution? :P

How many passes, and on what settings are we talking for Prime95, OCCT and IBT?

All your help has been phenominal, thanks a lot :)

Bang you bclk up to 3.8 and try that as it is,use linx to test first as unstability usually shows in the first few mins instead of prime 95 which can take few hrs for unstability to show, once you are stable in linx, then go on to IBT or Occt then do prime last

IBT 20 passes
linx 20 passes using maximum memory
Occt 1hr is enough although i usually do 2
Prime 4 hrs or more
If your cpu can pass all these stability tests then its safe to say that you pc is stable under extreme pressure and everything is working the way that it should be....you can also look at this thread for some reference to i7

Edit:What fans do you have on your heatsink?

Only using the one that comes with it..
I have the other sat in the drawer, but one is nice and quiet :P

What blck am I looking at for 3.8GHz?
Should I keep the voltages the same?
I know this sounds like a stupid question.. But by overclocking it to 3.6 or even 3.8, im not bringing my poor little i7 to a premature death am I?
i want this to last until the next BIG update, such as from the P4 to the Core 2 Duo, along the same lines as that lol.
So 1 maybe 2 years?
im probably chatting rubbish, so by all means correct me if im wrong :)

if your using the stock cooler and fans then thats why your temps arer a little high for a 920 d0,you need to buy a TRUE or Noctua with High cfm fans.

Dont go any higher until you have a better heatsink and fans.
