i7 920 overheating

CPU/mb whine or squeal is usually caused by c1e power saving states,go in advanced CPU features and disable it,then in win7 power saving use balanced profile, lemme know if it stops the noise

C1e etc are all disabled. balanced is on. typing this now its making the noise. ive minimized COD:MW3 single player once i go back into the game its stops.

its ******* annoying. lol

try disabling eist, but then the cpu wont throttle which is the whole point, its not doing it when gaming cos cpu is running at full clocks and not throttling

try with c3/c6 disabled first if still doing it try eist disabled, only way to cure it completely is buy a diff psu,i can point you to one that doesnt make the noise as ive gone through all this with my mb/psu

you can go back to using a fixed voltage again but again cpu will run full speed/voltages all the time

would my PSU cause back of CPU socket to make a noise?

my PSU is the Cooler Master Real Power M850.

yes it can come from cpu,psu or gpu,but its deffinatly the power saving thats causing it

just google gigabyte motherboard squeal and you will see its common problem, on all makes of motherboard not just gigabyte

all power saving features to my knowledge are disabled.

are there other power saving features in the bios that aren't in the advanced CPU features section. that section has options to disable hyperthrerading etc.

no its just eist, c3/c6 and c1e

disabling just c1e reduced my noise a lot,but i was using a cheapo psu at the time so it could have been that, ive got a new mb now though and a different psu and no noise at all but i would put it down to psu as ive seen/helped other users on another forum with same problem

i need to email you really as i cant post here what psu i used, but it wasnt a big brand model or a cheapo, just middle of the road branded one

Sounds like Vdroop from the bios. My EVGA board does it and there's an option in the bios to make sure it actually gives you the voltage you ask it too, without it drooping. I think it was the one thing stopping me hitting 4.4Ghz and 4.5Ghz under load properly...

I dont know if it would cause it being at a particular setting but is there anything that you could do to just enable it?
