I bought mine Easter 2009. 4 years on and I see no real need to upgrade.

I was tempted 1 year ago when I went 680 sli. I didn't see the cards pushed in BF3 and most peeps said it was my CPU. I held off anyway.

Then the last set of drivers released a week ago mentioned SLI improvements for BF3. This has taken the average utilisation from 68% in game to around 79%. And in some cases up to 99% which I never really saw before.

When will I upgrade? I get a feeling I might not even bother with Haswell..I think this thing is gonna have to die before I drag it out of my HAF-X.

Recently overclocked mine a little and added an SSD.

I see no reason to upgrade, CPU usage is always very low.

I'm recently thinking about getting another 6GB RAM before it vanishes. And a GPU with more than 1GB of VRAM.

The Exclusive i7 920 Gentlemen's Club

Well as the 920 is dying out on these forum's, l decided to start "The Exclusive i7 920 Gentlemen's Club" so if you own a i7 9x0[920,930, 980] CPU and intend to keep and run it sign up. So we can help and advice second hand i7 9x0 user's + old one's to get the best out of them.

As this was one of the best CPU's Intel have produced. There is no way l'm getting rid of my old faithfull 920:4.263ghz, as it still kick's butt with 12GB of ram, Sammy 830 SSD, Custom Cooling. This year l serviced my loop with new coolent[pre-mix] + tubing after 2 year's but also moved my 140mm internal rad to wear my 420mm rad both using low rpm fan's. The 420 was mounted on the rear of my case[FTO1] and it use to get all the heat from the bottom of the case from the PSU and the internal one was affected by the rise in heat as room temp's went up in the summer.

By doing this my core temps have droped by at least 6'c, with the central heating on at 23'c ambient room tempurature 54 to 58'c +/- 1'c and GPU never goe's over 50'c. So if you want to improve your temps mount one big rad externally for better cooling. installation and servicing, this is what l'm going to do on my next build.

LoL,l wonder how many i7 9X0 owner's we have left, so come on and sign up for this Exclusive i7 920 Gentlemen's Club.

Cheer's,;)
Oldphart.

My upgtade itch became too much and i went from an i7 920 @3.8ghz to a 3770k, and if im being honest when gaming i cant even tell the difference, video encoding has improved a bit but was it worth what i spent proberly not

i own an i7 920 don't plan on retiring it until haswell-e or broadwell as it still runs everything i throw at it, and probably will continue to until the next gen of consoles is well established!

I used to be a regular on this forum, upgraded my system once a year, however since I purchased a 920 back in 2009 and added an SSD - I've not had to upgrade...that's like 4 years ago!

Anyone looking for a cheap but very powerful upgrade from say c2d/q could do a lot worse than picking up one of theese chips + board and ram. Would make for a pretty decent gaming system. I used the gtx 670 in sig in both the 3570k and i7 920 setups. The 920 gave slightly better minimum fps in a few games i play.
