I7 965

ah really? ill check the bios when I get back in from work. But I know for sure that cpuz is reading it as 21x

Thanks! The thing is I've read that some other people have done it as well but I'm not sure how.

Edit: I managed to figure it out, all I had to do was disable speedstep as well!

what kind of multipliers are people with 965's using? I figured it wasn't much higher. wouldn't you want to still have a blck higher than 165? 23, or 25x 185 is not even possible I thought.

sorry for the hilariously late response, glad to hear youve worked it out! my bios is the X58AA115 version, it has a load of extra ram dividers over the bios that was shipped with the first lot of boards and is also the most stable one there is i think. anything after that seems to crash more often on the lower overclocks.

Best bet is to buy th 920 and wait till they bring out a stepping that will run cooler like the GO on the quads.

Yes they have been shipping it to disties since March 2nd but actual availability will depend on how much old stock is in the channel, hence some regions will recieve newer stock before others.

There's the X58AA210 which I'm using and that the latest official ones. There's also the 324 ones which add xmp support but it didn't seem stable for me so I'm back on the 210.

What settings are you using for 3.9ghz btw?

my settings are 189x21 for the 3.9. My vcore is set in the bios to +0.60 (and currently sits at 3.4 volts). Memory voltage is 1.6 and the timings are 9,9,9,24. Also I have manually set my uncore to double my RAM speed, let me know if you need any more details.

Cheers! What cooling are you using and what sort of temps? Sorry for all the questions.

no worries! Im using the akasa nero cooler and my temps are around 35 idle and 74 under load. Whats the max you can reach on urs? Ive been having a weird problem with my CPU speed not being able to go over 189mhz no matter how many volts i put through it - do you have similar probs?

Well I'm currently at 3.8ghz using 200x19. My main problem is the temperatures I'm getting. I'm using a noctua cooler and my idles are 35ish to start with but over time it goes up to 40 or so. On load, ie when stress testing, it goes to over 80 degrees quite quickly. That's with 1.316v on the core. Any less that that and it gets unstable.

Bclk wise, I can get up to 211 with around 1.39v so you could try that. With 200mhz bclk, I have the cpu vtt at 1.36v and the qpi at 1.3v (not sure why it appears red in the bios as it's well within intel's limit.

yea qpi is one that I havent really touched yet because I was unsure of how high I can safely go with it. By the way sorry to the OP for hijacking your thread! Biostar mobos are a hot topic
