incidentally, really suprised there are so few posts on this thread. Anyone got any successes/ failures to share clocking this chip? Benchmarks, screenies etc?

What overclocks are being hit?

:)

because anyone on the market for a gulftown cpu would buy a 980x

970 clocks just the same anyway mate

Is a i7 920@4ghz safe to use at 1.28 cpu voltage and 1.32 QPI voltage? my temps are 65-75c on all cores whilst gaming on intensive new games so guess it's ok?:)

Got a 930 sitting happily at 4ghtz with 1.268vcore

Nice - my 920 was happy at that too:) but the 970 is a gulftown core mate (6 Core) and thats the chip in question here;)

Yeah....and the price difference is miniscule in the big scheme of things ;)

still interesting to see whats out there though. Custom PC review sample would not do over 4GHz no matter what they did but here:

they had a retail that clocked like buggery ;)

Why is everyone posting about 920 and 930 clocks now in a 970 clocking thread

As rjkoneil said though I would imagine anyone would go for a 980x over a 970 with the price point it came in at. I would have been very interested if it came in around £500 but at current price its far too close to a 980x.

Going well so far:

Nice stable base to work fom now. :)

vcore is about spot on tbh mate

higher multi may mean higher voltage anyway

keep that bclk high and the ram divider on that.

i see that you are ever the nvidia fan

Just like that wall paper mate - easy on the eye and not too bright......a bit likeCheryl Cole :D

So mate, whats the next step you reckon? Do I up the multi or the bcLK? Decisions, decisions :) BcLK will keep the bandwidth up. Leaving the Ram at stock of 7,8,7,20 2000MHz until I've found the CPU ceiling 1st.

Did u watch the video review I posted earlier? ^^^^

Also, Just Ran the CPC Benchmarks:

Pretty pokey tbh as it is :)

Not very surprised that the 32nm chips suffer under voltages that the 45nm shrug off. I doubt you were astonished either, thank you for pushing the limits unto death (as it makes me less likely to do so).

Can you test under six sticks? Im more interested in the imc performance under heavy load than in clock speed when half the ram is missing :p

Overclocking with full memory banks is more fun too

@ AndyOcUK

hey ;) i'm from germany having the same cpu as you have...

some questions:

did you ever made it above 4.2 ghz(200x21)?
what are your voltages for your 4 ghz setting (vcore, qpi, pll)

i need 1.34 vcore within bios-settings to get it stable at 4 ghz
to go past 4.2 ghz i need more than 1.39 vcore!! can you confirm/verify that?

pls msg me :)
