That spec looks great. You may want to consider the Corsair H50 cooler, but the megahalems is fantastic, one of the best air coolers around.

As for the PSU, usually 580W should be enough for that setup (including graphics card). However, I have heard many bad things about that particular model of PSU, have a look here and here. If it was my i7 system, i'd change it for something more trustworthy.

The megahalem comes with it's own TIM. I thought I'd give it a go and it's been fine, nice low temps with my D0 @ 4.2ghz temps <=74c on all cores with LinX -on a UD5 board. So maybe dump the Arctic Silver 5 or try and find some MX3.

cool thanks a lot :)

now just gotta sell my q6600/ram/mobo :) -

On the subject of TIM, I have some artic silver which I bought last year would it have 'gone off' or would it still be ok to use?

I would definatly look at changing the psu. If you're planning on the 5*** series cards, we dont know what wattage they require so a better PSU now would save you time later of having to replace a new psu in there.

Also with such expensive components, I wouldn't neglect investing in a more expensive psu. Otherwise you risk damage to your components

thanks for all your help.

so gonna get this PSU Antec CP 850W Modular Power Supply

i have an antec 1200 case so it'll fit.

unless anyone can suggest a better one.

ideally i'd like to keep it sub £100
