Hey. I'm used to ddr2, and doubling the fsb to get the speed the ram runs at. So 9x400 gets me 3.6ghz and needs 800MHz ram.

Could someone tell me the equivalent for i7 please? Clock speeds seem to be quoted as 20x133 and 22x133, but the reasoning of 133x3=400mhz required doesn't tie in so well with the DDR3 speeds available

For memory, you multiply the BLCK by the memory multiplier.

e.g. 6 x 133.3 = 800 MHz, 8 x 133.3 = 1066, 10*133.3 = 1333, 12 x 133.3 = 1600

Note that if your system has a 920 processor, you can only use the 6x and 8x multis (though I'm not sure if some mobos have unlocked this restriction).

The primary way of overclocking memory is to increase the BCLK.

Ahh legend, very much appreciate that post. Its frustrating to not know the notation used by the system, off I run to check what the BLCK is beyond the analogue of FSB

Thanks Stu
