Just had a look on the website and it says all you need is a serial number.

2. the serial key from a previous Windows OS (XP/Vista) which must be entered in order for the upgrade DVD to install the full version of Windows 7 onto a blank harddrive.

I know that's what lead me to beleive that I could use my laptop product key. I'll give them an email and see what they say. Thanks for the help

No no it's just a retail version offered at a student price

Student price is about £35 from what I can see. Dont think I can post a link as OC do sell the same software even thought its not the student one.

I'm just not sure if I can do a clean install with it on a clean HDD?

I did a clean install with the iso from ms. You can get around it by doing a reg hack or install it first as a trial and then install it again from within the trial. I did the second and it worked fine.
