Hey guys

I'm looking for an i7 build for £1,000 firm (my original budget was £800 but I can stretch to £1,000 so thought I should put that here)

I will be using this computer mostly for work - I do SEO which is a lot of web browsing / tools / excel

The reason I want the i7 is I multitask what I would consider a lot will have multiple communication channels open eg. skype / slack / email clients and playing videos / music in the background while working.

I also do quite a bit of video stuff so I think I would benefit from the i7 but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I would like to be able to game I haven't played in years but it's nothing major a bit of casual COD and WoW. But if my build doesn't have the budget to do so now that is fine but I would like to add a decent graphics card maybe come summer when I have more time. So I guess upgradability is important to me.

I will also be moving to a dual monitor set up in the near future so would like to be able to do that? I'm not really sure if that is something that effects the parts I need

I have mouse / keyboard / monitors

Thanks, really appreciate your help if you need anything else from me let me know

Hi,

I've put together a configurator for you based on everything you mentioned and it does just creep over the £1k mark not including shipping, as you can see from the spec below it does include the i7 and I put a GTX 950 with you saying you'll be doing a bit of light gaming on there.

You could if you'd prefer to completely remove the GPU from the system and increase the SSD capacity or go for a slightly higher quality case if aesthetics are a big factor then buy a graphics card later but keep in mind onboard graphics aren't really capable of gaming on. To remove the GPU you would need to give our customer service team a call to put the order through.

Dual monitors wouldn't be a problem with this system at all so no need to worry about that.

Take a look and see what you think.

Hey Dave prebuilt if possible and I would like the opportunity to overclock but by no means a massive deal

@giblio would it be worth putting in 32gb of RAM or is that overkill?

this one Team Group Elite 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (TPKD432G2400HC16D

and also if you were going for a case for the quality opposed to aesthetics which would you go for?

It depends really, how much video work would you be doing as having more ram would certainly help a lot. Personally for the extra £22 I'd go for it just so that I'd have it and wouldn't need to worry about upgrading in the future.

In regards to the case I really like Phanteks, their cases look awesome and their build quality is tremendous.

Ok I will upgrade the SSD to 250GB and get a phantek case, do I need anything for wireless wifi under the networking tab?
also any advantage to having the SSD have the OS on it (Solid State Drive **For Operating System If Selected**) ?

Brilliant, yes if you wanted wireless then you would need to select an option in the networking section.

If you have the OS on the SSD your system will boot up incredibly fast.

Ok - with regards to networking section will any result in a better speed / more reliable than others?
going to order this tonight so thanks for your help

and why is the SSD for the OS more expensive than a regular SSD?

You mention it's for your firm.... is that £1000 including VAT or excluding VAT. That can make a huge difference, it's £200 more to play with if it's excluding VAT :)

I'd suggest one of the TP-link options like the 300MBps adapter card, that's an M.2 pcie SSD which are quicker than the 2.5" options.

also what is the difference in the motherboards? eg. the various ASUS Z170s? is it worth having a more expensive one over something else?

currently thinking this know it's £200 more expensive than I said but I really don't want to have to keep adding things and making it more expensive long term

That's a lot of money for an i7 with a low-end GPU.

OP, you'd probably be better off letting someone spec you something up, and then asking OCUK to build that for you; for a nominal fee of course, but you'd get better bang for buck that way.

Hell, if you're in/around Leeds I'll come build it for you.
