Ok, after a lot of reading over the last few weeks I have finally put together the following spec. It will be used mainly for work with a few games thrown in, but 90% work so keep that in mind. The system will be overclocked to whatever can be achieved on air whilst keeping it 24/7 stable. So here is what I was thinking:
Gigabyte EX58 Extreme Intel X58 PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
2 x Patriot 'Viper' 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Viper Series Low Latency
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - OEM
Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5
Silverstone Fortress FT01B-W Tower Case with Window - Black (No PSU)
Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus Black Multi Fan Controller
Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 850w Power Supply
2 x Western Digital RE3 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache in Raid 0
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7200S 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
Sony BDU-X10S Blu-Ray Reader Serial-ATA Drive - Retail
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM
Boogie Bug AimB.Pad XL Gaming Surface
Additional Cooling
2 x Scythe Ultra Kaze 2000RPM 120mm Case Fan – to replace the Noctua ones
Corsair Triple-Channel Airflow Fan
So what I need to find out is:
Does everything here fit together fine?
Does the Corsair memory cooler work with all 6 slots filled by non Corsair memory?
Can cooling be improved further in any way?
Is there anything in my spec that needs changing that would improve performance?
Many thanks for any input.
