I7 Build Quiz

@otemu

I just finished reading your thread :O OMG! I thought Stephen King had written it!?
Glad you finally got it all working and thanks for your reply I can certainly learn from the advice on your thread :)

Looks Like I'm still going for the Asus P6X58D-E
You mentioned Arctic cooling mx3 is that better than the thermal paste that comes with the Silverarrow? (Chill Factor III I think?)
And will I need that extension cable if My board is at a 90° rotaion from the normal layout?

I have all the peripherals I need although may go for a second monitor at some point? :)
I have the new Intuos 4 too which is just AMAZING! :)

How much power does your system use? Do you think 850w would be ok? Some have suggested I get higher?

Thanks again :)

That's a good attitude to have :)

Nvidia have a more interesting architecture but poor delivery to Market so are struggling to keep up with AMDs price/performance.

Historically ATI/AMD has been the price/performance choice and Intel/Nvidia the raw performance and stability choice.

460 or 5850 ate still good value choices today. But hold off a little bit for the new nvidia drivers. Or hold off for a little longer for the nextbatch of amd cards as hopefully 5xxx will drop in price.

Thanks Lobwan! :)

Don't suppose you know if a revised edition of the FT02 with AP181's as standard is due anytime soon? I'd rather not have a window but the FT02R seems a little more refined at the moment :/

I have seen the special edition in stock on other sites. Dunno when OcUK will have it in stock tho.
Maybe post a web note and check with them :D

Well am glad it didn't end up like a Stephen King horror book, as normally the outcome is never good lol

Sorry didn't know it came with paste, did a quick search and seems Chill Factor III is an excellent paste on par or in some reviews say it even better.

Sounds like you won't, I brought the extension cable afterwards since it was recommended to me, but this is purely a cosmetic thing not essential, you can judge after you do your cable management, if your not happy how that cable is appearing in your system then you can always still purchase it as delivery charge for that cable is only £2-£3 from OC

How big your current monitor? I assume because you have the Intuos 4 pad your doing lot of modelling and design, most designers and animators in my work place have 30" monitors, I say go for a massive screen first over two small monitors, but I guess it a matter of preference really, if you can afford it get one massive 30" monitor and two 24" monitors haha overkill that the setup of the senior designer at my work place, lucky for some.......................

How much power does your system use?
I doubt my system uses that much power, I haven't OC and only have 1 video card, 750W is overkill but I just wanted some extra just in case, I am sure 650W or maybe even 550w could power my system fine.

Do you think 850w would be ok? Some have suggested I get higher?
Well Corsair have a 'find the right psu for your system' tool which you can use here I tested it on your build, it brings up 850W, 950W and 1000W. On this forum their talk about the PSU being one of the most important parts of any PC build, not something you should mess with, since your taking like £20 - £40 price difference for either 950W or 1000W why not just go for the more powerful PSU option.

Thanks again :)
No problem, the best thing I found was patience is the key when building, really take your time, don' rush, if your not sure about something, research it or ask on here for advice, also loads of videos on youtube how to build PC's check them out also. If all else fails then let me install your motherboard :p am a pro now LOL

I think 24" is as big as I need? especially if playing games too.... otherwise I'd have to move my head to see the whole screen :/

Just a thought - even though a 480 isn't a totally ridiculous price right now (especially this week), for the same price 2x 460s open up a pretty large can of whoop-ass on it.

I'm leaning heavily towards the 460 atm mainly because it's cheap enough to get a second for sli or sell on and upgrade to newer card :)

RAM 6GB XMS3 =Confirmed
GPU GTX460 =90%
CPUC Silverarrow =confirmed
SSD C 300 64GB =Confirmed

Just need to confirm a few things...like the Ram (more than likely xms3 but Geil BD looks intersting alt) and still not sure best optical drive which will fit in FT02B without interfering with anything else due to length?

Think they are all about the same size.
If you check this video you can see right angled connectors would fit. It just looks to be a problem with the top bay as well. The other bays seem to have more room at the back
You get some right angled sata data cables with the ASUS P6X58D-E not sure if you get right angled power ones with the PSU tho.

As for what make of drive I like the look of this one since the front is all black :p

Oh and I would go for the XMS3 ram as well.

Hope this helps :D
