Hi there

i have posted on here before when i was building my new i7 PC

just a couple of things i thought i would get your advice on.

1. PC hangs for about 20-30 secs on "Verifying DMI pool data"

2. hangs for about 30 secs to 1 minute when i log on (after putting password in and pressing enter to log on it hangs before showing desktop.

i have tried stopping services on startup, i have tried turning off all styles, i have tried changing the amount of cores and how much memory to use on boot up.

i have also tried to overclock using easy tune 6 but the computer freezes when it logs on if i do that.

any suggestions on what i could do? anything is great!! :) thanks in advance

i am using vista (i no this is not the best but all i have) and im not sure if i am using raid. i have 3 hard drives installed but i dont think i ever set up raid....not sure how i would do this anyways lol

Vista is the best, XP is worthless these days.

Well Windows 7 RC is out but Vista is the best finally released OS for a gaming PC.

Agreed, Vista is actually pretty good these days and certainly wipes the floor with XP mainly due to good networking and looking nice. Technichally its slower than XP, but with i7 hardware you will see no difference in performance. If you already have it - its a good OS to have.

If you are buying a new OS now - download the 64 bit version of Windows 7 release candidate. Then when it gets released later this year buy it. I hear that windows 7 will properly utilise hyperthreading, so it is ideal for i7 processors. Also it seems to be faster than Vista (though its obviously still a beta so likely not quite as stable).

thanks a lot cmndr_andi, i think i will do that, i really didnt want to buy vista due to the upcoming w7 :D the w7 RC seems like a great option, im buying that 4ghz i7 overclocked d0 bundle, hopefully i will have little to no problems with the RC :P

hi, thanks for your feedback

temps are as follows:

core 0: 40C
core 1: 38C
core 2: 38C
core 3: 32C

is this too hot?

it was working ok when i 1st built it, but i cant remember when it turned slow, either ofter i overclocked it, or after i updated the BIOS

thanks

Run a scan with Malwarebytes and NOD32 to check for malware to make sure the PC is clean.
Try resetting the CMOS and setting the 1st boot device to your hard drive

Hmmmm.....my initial thought is BIOS, as it hangs at Verifying DMI Pool data it's not gonna be OS related. Try resetting it to defaults, or read through this link, maybe it helps:
Computer Hangs at "Verifying DMI Pool Data"

those seem like mightly low temps for an i7, even if idle. i'm suspecting a throttled cpu due to hitting Tmax?? is your cooler on properly etc etc??
