Seen this review of a purchase for GSkill memory.

"one problem ddr-3 1600 does not run on x58 triple channel so thats all x58 motherboards so if you want triple channel you need the 1333mhz pack"

Planning on overclocking my i7 920 and getting Asus Extreme 2 motherboard, so what memory do I need.

That statement has left me a bit confused. Take it that is only if you are not overclocking or is it due to multiplier.

i.e 6x200 = DDR3 1200
8x200 = DDR3 1600

This i7 caper has me baffled.

I saw that and was a little mystified myself. Certainly doesn't coincide with the info on this thread:

Different memory I know, but no apparent issues at 1600mhz.

The statement "ddr-3 1600 does not run on x58 triple channel" seems wholly erroneous in light of the many vendors currently producing 1600mhz (and faster) triple channel kits.

The user probably either has a faulty stick, or some other problem they haven't yet isolated.

Looking on the manual for the P6T you can only use one 1600 chip in each channel. As there are three channels you can use 6gb (3 x 2Gb 1600, one in each channel) if you want 12GB meaning 6 x 2Gb it looks like you need to use 1300.

I don't know what it's like for other boards though.
