Hi, I need a system that has to be good at number crunching, not needed for games or graphics but needed for running complex maths codes. I was looking at the i7 920 and overclocking it. But how much RAM would be optimal for that processor? Is there a point where buying more RAM makes no difference?

Should anyone consider overclocking a workstation used for mathmatical calculations? If it falls over 30 hours into a process you'd hit the roof!

What are you planning to run? A dual Xeon system might be a better (but more expensive) option.

Physics codes mostly for nuclear physics calculations. Won't be overlocking to the extreme, just a fair amount and get a decent cooler.
