i7 only showing 2 cores?

My new i7 is only showing 2 cores? I can also only select 2 cores in the BIOS aswell???

What motherboard you using, tried a CMOS reset.

Asus Maximus III GENE, I have tried a BIOS reset yes, no luck. resource monitor is showing 2 cores as parked aswell but device manager is showing all 8 threads.

Which CPU? Which bios version?

Update the bios and re-seat the cpu.

Using an i7 860, im not sure it could be a bios problem as the bios version came way after the cpu was released? the date is 07/22/2010 according to CPU-Z

Does CPU-z show the revision of the BIOS used, sorry to sound annoying.

What GPU are you using as cpu-z mentions x4 rather than x16 for the bandwidth.

The cpu is well supported with that BIOS!

Solved, I had to uncheck the amount of processors for Windows to load and just leave it blank, still no idea why it only showed 2 max cores in the BIOS though? either way, everything is showing 4 cores and 8 threads in windows now.

Since the default is for this field to be blank you must have tweaked this yourself at some point.

Yes, I originally had a Phenom II that wouldn't boot with all four cores unless I manually set it.
