OK after much consideration I've decided to splash some hard earned cash on an i7 the only thing is I can't decide whether to buy the bits and pieces separately or go for this:

Based on Overclockers own prices they are sticking a premium of over £100 on the overclocking service. Is this really good value? Could I realistically expect to get 4Ghz out of it if I bought the parts myself? I appreciate these guys will know what they are doing but a £100 premium seems steep to me.

I'm in a similar boat but looking at their 4GHz i5 bundle for £510. That one is only £50 more than the individual parts, so seems like a bargain to me for the pro's selecting a CPU that will definately take the overclock, setting it all up, testing, then giving a warranty for the overclock. But £100 extra on your bundle (you added it up right? :) ) is a tougher call. How much do you value an easy life? How experienced are you at doing the overclocking yourself? I had a big OCd system back in PIII days so would be confident updating my knowledge and having a go, but for £50 I'm happy for them to do it for me.

Yes I can't recall exact prices off the top of my head but roughly:
i7 920 £220
6GB 1600 DDR3 £135
x58 MB £200
H50 cooler £60 = £615

Bundle price £715

I would have a go at overclocking myself, I have done in the past but like you not in some years. I would rather someone who knew what they were doing did it for me, also you get warranty and I would also be disappointed if I didn't get it to 4GHz, is it worth an extra £100 I don't know.

Will depend if you have to have 4ghz from the chip, if this is the an exact requirement then you might want to go for the bundle to have that guarenteed.

If it's a nice to have and you don't mind 3.6 or 3.8 or even staying at stock, then have a go yourself with the help of all the people on the forums here you won't go far wrong and most people will get in the high 3.x's without to much difficulty.

+1 for doing it yourself - I overclocked my system myself and its quite rewarding, plus you'll have a better understanding of the process too.

Also worth mentioning that you'll have help here and its not that difficult to do, provided you're patient and careful.
