Hi Guys,

Just a quick question... has anyone ever had their 17 920 only show up as 1 core in windows... ? I mean in task manager and also any HW monitoring program... ?

Seems very strange to me, my mate went round to my house a turnt on my pc and somehow since then i only have a 1 core i7 lol.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
TD

He done broked your PCs. :(

The only program that doesn't read the number of cores properly is my Logitech G15 screen. Rather than splitting up the CPU usage percentage bar into 4 or 8 bits, it just has one big chunk. :(

True story - this is the only conclusion i can come too also lol everytime he walks into my house even for a second something goes wrong with it lol.

Ah well, will grad all the latest drivers and apps tonight then give it a format and new install and start all over. Will be good to do that anyways seeing as im going to start overclocking it soon also.

What motherboard do you have? On my Asus P6T, I can run with 4+4 HT cores, 2+2 HT cores, 2 cores (HT off), 1+1 HT cores or 1 core (HT off).

Yeah, could be the CPU is set up wrong in the bios somehow, or he's messed with the CPU core detection in MSConfig. It should be left as default.

Yeah, you should have an option in your BIOS to enable however many cores you want, or at least my EX58 UD5 has this option, it lets you select from 1 to 4 cores...

So my guess is that someone has been interfering with your BIOS options and set it to use only one core... or as reflux has already said, the cores can also be disabled in MSconfig, under the "Boot" tab and then "Advanced Options", there should be a bit that says "Number of processor cores:"...

Checked this out too and it only lets me select "1" processor in the drop down...

Then that basically means, either the chip has suddenly become faulty or the BIOS has something set wrong. But you have cleared the Bios
