i7 temp?

Hi guys, rather than start a new thread I thought I'd post this here.

I've put together an i7 system and using a MEgahelem cooler. At idle my temps are around 32ish. It varies depending on room temps.

However when I run Orthos (I've used small FFTs and large in place FFTs) the temps raise to anywhere from 68-77 depending on how long its been running and depending on the room temp too.

From reading this it seems like that's normal for a high temps under 100% load but a few issues I have is that:

I'm running at stock right now
I'm not running the system in a case right now, it's on a testbed on my table.

Is this still all normal or should I look to try and get these temps down before I attempt an overclock?

Yeah! you're right. That temp is way too high for stock settings and outside the case. Mine @ 4.0 GHtz is getting 77C only after 20 runs of Linx at max memory and that's inside an Antec 1200 and with Noctua NH-U12P.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

Is there any reason why the temps are getting so high under load when the idle temps are around the same as other people are reporting? It's weird how it jumps so high, I would have thought that if the heatsink wasn't sitting properly that the idle temps would also be higher than normal but they sit around no more than 32.

Should I consider re-aplying the heatsink and paste?

Can I just ask what everyone is using to read temps via software? My abit p6 bios temp now sits around 32 but core temp shows the cores fluctuating around 25.

my idle temps are like 43-41-40-38 with eist on at 3.40ghz overclock , but the load temps jump up to 84-84-79-79 or something round that range

this is with most of the fans on medium and the window open
