i73970x ,rampage x79, please help me with my overclocking voyage.

The reason your OS is saying that it is not genuine is because you've reset the entire BIOS, including the time, when you removed the battery. You need to set it back to the date of today and the time (more or less) as well. That'll sort your Windows issue out straight away.

Wow thx loads 8Pack for the overclock settings I just got them to work :-) im sure most guessed already the only trouble with them was operator error lol .. But now im starting to slowly learn my new bios and I also have now found the most important CMOS button ... Lol saving me having to remove a graphic card and then the mb battery each time I mess up my bios setting lol .( and get locked out )

IV tested the overclock on throttle stop bench 1024m and with all my fans set to medium settings , the highest temp on a saw was 74 , does that sound ok ?

Question . Should I now try reducing the vcore a little to make temps and thus fan noise even better ? Or are these settings push to the max already ?

Ps .I'm running the very first set of setting you gave me at the top of this thread and only then from a reset bios , I haven't used any of the other adjustments you have talked about in this thread , if I was to add these extra settings is this going to reduce temps or are they just aimed at increasing stability ( of which I seem to have nailed down right now ) ?

Ps. Please can you tell me what is the best way to measure temps on my machine , I have been using core temp ? Is that a good programme to be using or is their something ells I should be using ?
Thx
Sleepyluke

Update....
I have got my vcore down to 1.365v and IV not hit any trouble yet ... Max temp is now 72 on TS bench 1024m and only 68 max gaming bf3 on all setting ultra .. This seems good to me but I would like to know what others think , like is it running to hot or not .. Any way I will keep pushing down my vcore tomorrow and see where I end up .

Another update .....
I have noticed when using real temps that my overclock is showing in real temps as only 4.4 ghz and not the 4.8 ghz it is set to in the bios ? I am trying to run it with prime95 ... Any cluse why it is doing this ... I don't seen to have this issue with core temp

Temps are fine.

Core Temp is also fine.

Some of the other settings we can move onto later they actually help with both temps and stab but are fine tuning ones.

CPU Z is the best reporting prog to show True core speed. Dont trust the others.

Dopnt worry about continually tuning down Core voilts. Your temps are fine and your stable so who care!!!! People put way too much emphasis on this one, your well within safe parameters.

Excellent , my new machine is running sweet ... Thx loads 8 pack .
I have really appreciated your no nonsense approach to getting me on tack , I'm well happy with my 4.8ghz ,2,400mhz ram 24/7 oc
I will now take some time to learn why what you have given me works so well before asking you to help me move forward to fine tuning the settings further , if ok ?

Thx again :-)

Hello 8 pack

As I learn more I see their are 2 ways to set my vcore " manual " and "offset " and I now understand the difference as well :-) manual being fixed and offset fluctuating as needed .

My question on this is which do you think is the better for my set up ? ( I'm currently using manual )
I'm guessing offset will lower my idel temps but I'm also guessing it will make my oc more unstable under load ?

Thx

update....

I have a few BSOD and had to increase my vcore back up to 1.360v which is putting max temps on bf3 on ultra at 69 .. i know this is a ok temp to run at .. how ever i would now like to see if my 4.8ghz overclock can be made to run cooler , so would it be ok for you to direct me to the other setting you talked about that i can tune to get some better temps ?

Also what is your opinion about my h110 ( currently set at top and to exsaust ) would you say exsaust or intake is better ?

Manual.

Predictable stable voltages.

Your wasting your time messing around. Who honestly cares about afew degrees when the temps are within an acceptable range anyway. just run the system stable.
