i7s are back

motherboards are in again too, as of course is ram.

doesn't seem to be much change in figures yet?

Just noticed that the boards show pre order on the pre-view screen and when you check both Asus boards there are 10+ in stock :)

I just saw the price of the i7 965.

Holy mother...

I imagine the first unit that arrives at OCUK will be treated with the same kind of revery as the Crown Jewels...and worth only marginally less :p

Am I the only one who is not overly excited by the early i7's ?

Think I will wait until they mature a bit first :)

i just did a price check for cheapest i7 system i could put toghether i came to £730
that was using 3 sets of this memory

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...B) CAS8 Dual Channel Kit (F3-10600CL8D-2GBHK)

this mobo as it has 6 dimm slots for triple channel memory

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

and the cheapest i7 cpu

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...0 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail

So i wont be buying an i7 system until the price's drop dramactically

i assume there will be P55 boards for i7 then to keep with the current trend?

In which case i think i'll wait for those, £200+ for a motherboard is ludicrous, £120 motherboard £120 ram then what ever CPU seems the best price/performance wise

There is going to be more than 3 models of CPU right? :p

It's referring to what it's doing to your wallet ;)
Just upgrading my rig now, was originally planning an i7 build but I'm not willing to mortgage the house, back to the drawing board!

wow ocuk advertising too early again ;)

Still a good 2 weeks before its out, wonder where AMDs new chip is wasnt it due before corei7...

Will judge via the benchmarks but its looking like yorkfield chip + DDR2 best combo going but will see :)

Good time to be buying a quad ;)

Still can't really see the practical use of these for any less than running a server or hardcore 3d, video etc. We all know that gaming won't improve much

I say wait for the next cycle and pick these up cheap :D

with 4 cores and HT giving possble use of 8 threads they would make great folding machines but £700+ i want one thats going to be great for everything including the games i currently play and plan to play in the future

Prices have risen just as i said they would. Cheapest cpu was £258 and now it's £270. That's the exchange rate for you.

LOL.. Not much of a markup then... :p
