I9-9900k or i7-10700k?

I do have a case of upgradeitus your right.

The issue I was having was kinda like a pausing effect, not just grathics but audio too. Like it was server lag but packet loss was zero and ping was low It did this all day. It hasn't however done it again since. I am concerned about temps, cpu is fine but the gpu puts out 75 degrees although that's normal everything else is so hot. I felt the ram and motherboard heatsink and they were amazingly hot. Is it worth putting a water block on to take the heat out the case better or is that simply a waste of money and will do nothing?

I haven't had an Intel cpu since pentium 2, I've always gone amd and after 3 years normally a change was due. That's why I though this might be my problem

Get something simple like an nvme ssd if you dont have one and over clock the cpu. That cpu will boost a single core to 4.7ghz but the more cores it uses the less the speed will be, going down to 4.3 if all cores are being used. Try an all core 5ghz oc. You could also set up a custom fan profile using afterburner for the gpu so it's more aggressive than the default. The new nvidia gpus will be out not before long, you could always sell the amd card and upgrade that instead and you'd see a much bigger jump in performance than changing the cpu.

I'd try and get to the bottom of that before you do anything. The heatsinks are supposed to be hot, it's their job to take the heat, though without airflow they have a problem.

you got a case of upgradeitus. resist.

8700k v 10700k is a wash.

More efficiency and you get a little more FPS, is it worth the money to upgrade ? no but if you are a enthusiast type you will do upgrades regardless of costs or what your bank balance will stand. :p

The gpu is steady around at 75 degrees, cpu spikes upto 65 but hangs mostly around 50 when gaming
What's the best software to use to monitor this? This was just using HWmonitor and radeon app.
Monitor is 3440x1440
And its a clean OS
Plain and simple, the problem is clearly your GPU at tha resolution you CPU is less vital. Save the money and upgrade the GPU

Also your CPU is still a very capable model. There won't be a noticable difference in performance in moving to a 9 or 10 series.

Yes at 75degrees it will heat up your case ideally you should be 10 degrees or lower if possible, i had the same problem with my 1080ti and had to make sure the fans were running a little faster to reduce the temps and maintain a better frequency..

I went from 9600K to 9900K recently, no regrets at all though with Z390 and latest bios 9900K works really well, maybe better than it would on Z370.

I too had upgradeitus but my reasoning is that having the top CPU in a motherboard prevents CPU upgradeitits for me, as I already had 32GB 3000mhz ram I'm keeping this setup for most of the PS5 and Xbox ports cycle. All future upgrades will be GPU or storage for me for now.

I reckon the 9900K will hold value pretty well like older intent top range CPUs tend to for later upgraders, but if you get a new MB, just wait for new Ryzen, not worth buying a new MB and 9900K IMO.

Yes 10700k`s are failed 10900k with 2 of the cores cut off thats why it easy to pick up a 10700k but not the 10900k it is not that they are poor chips just that Intel are pushing it to far on the 10900k which is why they are bring out a lower spec 10850k.
Source?

Pretty sure he's right, I have delidded them and the die is are same size as 10900k, 10850K are 10900K that don't make the grade.

Asus boards grade your silicon and 63 is average score for 10900K, 10850K are in the 50's

10700K seem also to be worse bin than R0 9900K as well sadly. Tested about 10 R0 9900K several week apart from different places and all could do 5.2Ghz all cores 1.35V BIOS, 10700K seem to struggle above 5Ghz.

Fair enough. I've ordered a 10700k as a stop gap until 11th gen turns up. I'm now wondering if I should have just got a 10600k instead.
