I see somebody is selling i9's already. I can't like to the site as I think it would get classsed as a competitor but it has a buy it now price of $1,200.

Does it mean engineering sample? If so I guess the seller shouldn't really be selling them. I am surprised Intel has not asked for them to be pulled from the auction.

Engineering sample. Means it's not allowed to be sold, either someone is mocking the non disclosure agreement or someone is about to rob five unfortunate people of $1200 a piece. I suspect the latter.

It looks like this chip will replace the 975 so expect it to be about £750-£800 retail inc vat here.

I believe in a previous auction he has already sold one. Then this new auction came up with 5 more. Both auctions were the same seller. The seller also has 100% positive feedback. Looking at their feedback it seems he or she sells a lot of engineering samples.

No, they *can* be previous steppings (but not always) & be more buggy than the release version. I wouldn't touch it tbh

Sometimes they are, until retail chips appear there is no basis for comparison. If he has that many chips it is likley he works for a large oem or contract manufacturer.

I found it too. I wouldn't touch it, its probably better waiting for the Retail, as Samples aren't always good, or the 'FULL' thing.

The i7-980X as it now appears to be called will be replacing the i7-975 so its only a tiny percentage of the market anyways.

Seems nothing exciting coming from Intel in 2010 as well if you exclude i9 that will cost a fortune and will only be of use to people using Adobe, Autodesk and other software that utilize so many cores.

Seems like l shall wait for either Sandy Bridge or Bulldozer and both are coming in 2011. Best to start saving.
