I have been given an old 4U workstation with an Intel i975Eextreme on an Asus P6T Deluxe II motherboard. Currently has 12GB RAM (1333Mhz I think) and 2x Nvidia 275 running SLI mode.

I am toying with the idea of either the XBOX X One X or possibly building a gaming PC, as I have an extensive Steam library, mostly consisting of RTS, Survival & RPG games, with the odd manic session of Warframe and Star Wars Battlefront.

Would the computer still be good enough if I just replace the GPU cards for something like a 1060ti or would I have to replace everything to play games like TW: Warhammer 2?
I also use an aged MSI GX70 laptop for games, but this is becoming a struggle due to obsolete AMD drivers for the APU & GPU.

I had an i9 860@ 4ghz and moved to 7600k @5ghz... Saw Min 15 FPS increase and tried on 660/960/980ti/1070/80 - even did a build log on here with the change .DX12 does give a much need boost for gen 1/2 cores unlike from 4th gen upwards

Honestly would upgrade it. Good time to with Ryzen at Intel's heels. I5 8400 or Ryzen 1400/1600 and your away with 1060 3Gb or 6GB if you got the cash

That will be a great little machine for slightly older games as you suggest with the 1060ti in it.
The computer chassis is a full server rack sized in depth!?! It was designed to run industry flight simulators (using Prepare 3D engine)but recently got replaced due to upgrade program. Our new system runs x99 generation CPU with 1080ti & 1GB SSD. Output drives 3x 50" lcd screens and a single 32" touchscreen.

It's amazing now you can get a console sized case and still fit an mitx x299 , gtx 1080 ti in there haha

Just an update - I bought myself the AMD Radeon rx850 Red Dragon https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...d-gx-18l-pc.html?sAction=rating#votecontainer
from this brilliant company (thanks for the Haribos OC) and the i975 system is running current games brilliantly. Getting average 60fps on games such as Wildlands and Destiny 2 at max settings. Now looking at getting a smaller case so I can house the computer in the house. Currently got the noisy thing in the garage and remote controlling with extended USB & DVI cables courtesy of work.
