My Girlfriends iBook recently started doing funny things, like saying it needs to shut down after freezing up etc. It was due a reformat anyway so I went ahead and reformatted and reinstalled OS 10.4. Only to realise when completeing the installation that the tracker pad was infact not working. I completed the installation anyway using an external mouse. When finished the installation I also realised the Airport wasn't working.

So any ideas why these two things have stopped working? I think it might be a hardware thing and a part of the motherboard controlling these things has broken. What do you guys think?

Also if she sold it in its faulty condition what do you think it could fetch? (12" iBook 1.33GHz G4 1Gb RAM 40Gb HD). Meaning would it be worth sending it to get fixed or would the repair costs be just as much as it is now worth?

happened to me to!

you currently have 10.4.0, the iBook didn't appear until 10.4.2 afaik.

so do a software update and it will fix all the issues.

You know, up in the top left blue apple.

Ok did both of the above. After updating to 10.4.9 the tracker pad now works. But still no joy with airport. Do you think the airport card is just broken?

I assume it is actually switched on?

:o

Can you take it somewhere e.g. Starbucks/friend's house where they have a free wireless to test it on.

Not saying it's not broken, but at least you could check with other wireless networks incase you chose to not broadcast the SSID by accident :)

We have a wireless network in the house and all other computers can connect to it, so its not that.

No the Airport is not switch on because in Internet Connect it says "No Airport hardware is installed". Which leads me to believe that the Airport card is faulty.

Did you reformat with the original iBook disc?

Some off-the-shelf disc might not have installed the driver for the iBook airport see :)

As far as I know, now I have installed all the updates on the iBook (plugged it in using an ethernet cable) I have all the drivers from Apple. So I am a bit stumped.

Yes, but without the original disc it wouldn't install the driver.. without the original driver apple.com / software update wouldn't spot the need for an update :)

Did you use the original disc?
