ICE advice

which reason Matt?

That they draw power from the system reducing voltage further and also add resistance?
That they are really only a filter for the power supply (assuming the charge circuit isn't overtaxed)?
That they're just plain pointless unless you've already done the main 3 upgrades to the charge/supply circuit?
That they will only provide power for milliseconds and have about a 10th of the charge of a PP3 battery?

Or that they're just pointless unless you've got a mega SPL setup and are already running multiple alternators & batteries?

I've probably missed more reasons but I can't forget enough times how many people I've told to set fire to their money rather than buy a power cap.

exactly, thats useful information rather than "because the interweb said so"

I was literaly going to post, the only real reason he would want to keep them is because of the looks.

It's also for looks.

He beat me to it though.

they are completely pointless. Back in the day, me and mrk1@1 used to have some serious serious ICE installs, not SPL sure, but in terms of draw, quality and output, they were big. No Caps insight.

Wont this be a little bit loud?

edit - I'm serious. What's the point in this? Wont it just be so loud it'll hurt your ears? Wouldn't you be better off just getting some decent normal type speakers and headunit?

This is nothing in comprasion to my home hifi, £30,000 worth of kit and it can be heard some distance. The room it's in has been insualted to help. Not that i ever listen to stuff loud loud, but i like to hear every detial in the music as if i was there.

This is just to make use of some cheap parts in a really cheap car. It's not like im fitting it into my BMW 740i is it. Thats perfectly fine as is with Radio 4 on the go, Works van has factory ford stuff fitted and does for radio 1.

This is just a messabout, i got the part really cheap and im just having a play about

30ks worth of kit lol. if you have that sort of kit then i would hope you to know a thing or two about car audio, so why are you ignoring the advise?

well you clearly arent interested in advice so im out. good luck.

the "advice" isnt saying why the caps should go, i guess its just internet hearsay then?

forget the caps, i already said he can take them or leave them. it's the fact that he expects an 'uprated' battery and stock alternator to cope with a 240a draw. it will not.sod the caps, the op is the only person who keeps bleating on about them whilst ignoring everything else he's told.

frankly i dont think he'll ever get near that sort of draw so it may be irrelevant, but if he does( and i reckon 150a+ will present him enough problems) then his system will not be designed for it.

and before you say it, yes i know i said i was out :p

powercaps are great if you have problems supplying enough voltage to the amp, which happens when the current demand is high enough that the voltage across the battery and alternator drops (lights diming ect). but if that happens then you should be looking at improving the power delivery, not masking it with caps.

If it were me personally as you claim to be after quality I'd ditch the install all together. Filling the boot with amps and bottom of the line budget subs & amps is going to give you plenty of SPL but bag fulls of distortion and no clarity what so ever.

I'd have not bothered with buying the equipment you have, despite the fact it was very cheap as it's not really suitable for the job.

if you've got £30k to splash on home AV gear and 'BMW 7 series 4.0litre injection' as you keep mentioning then surely you can have bought some higher range gear?

It seems to me that you just want to fill the boot with audio equipment which is fair enough but is something I grew out of in my teens.

Be interested to see how this all comes together as I can appreciate the work which goes in to an install.

Edit: Have you actually mentioned which components (I hope) you're planning on using? Likewise the size and brand of the sub/subs you'll be using?

Im not wanting to go all out and high end on the car. It's just for some fun with some bits i picked up really cheap. Something to keep me away from the wife as shes doing my nut in. I'd never throw the money at a car audio setup as i have on my home. The results are not going to be the same ever. This is just for some fun.

Not sorted any spears out fully yet. The test in home was with some Focal's that needed to be burnt in for a friends diy speaker build.

Got the amps back from powdercoating buddy and just finished putting them back togther. Look nice and like new. Done a test for half hour and there all working no tripping out or protection mode.

I was offered £30 a cap on saturday so i sold them which im sure will please you all.

So now how to display the amps. I though of maybe have them at an angle sticking out forwards sort of thing and then under each other. Any other ideas?
