Ice Cream maker - who has one?

It's not like a knife that you need, something like this you either really want it or will never use it.

Which model is it? If it's one of those freeze bowl ones I would never use either.

Take it the one you bought is still going strong Raymond? I saw a Magimix one in House of Fraser last night for £40; obviously not up to the same standard as a £200 one, but I may buy it and give it a try. I'm a sucker for kitchen gadgets and appliances.

Yup, had it 3 years now and it's been perfect, made 2 batches last week in fact.

If you are not a big ice cream person then I wouldn't get the £200 one, they are something that require a permanent space in the kitchen, if you move it, you can't use it for 24 hrs until the coolant inside settles back down. So not something you keep in the cupboard until you need it. If you do that you might as well get the £40 with the bowl in the freezer.

I have a gelato maker, it was well worth the £250 or so I paid.

Cools faster which is smaller crystals and as such smoother ice cream. I envisage it to last 20-30 years at least which when you consider it makes ice cream comparable if not better than hagen dazs and that's a fiver a tub, isn't bad.

Thanks, how do these compare in terms of smooth and light ice cream that you get from an Ice Cream truck?
