Hey - I have a 96 Clio where I'll be replacing the headunit soon. The car comes with 4 speakers. I'd like to hopefully upgrade the speakers and was wondering what do you suggest? What size speakers does this particular clio use?

Thanks :)

You buy an adaptor for the Clio which allows you to fit 13cm round speakers. Really the best way is to just upgrade your front speakers, as thats all your ears use (unless you drive from the back seat :p).

I thought the front speakers were 10cm only? I took the grill off and there's only enough placement for 10cm unless am wrong. :S

Oh it could be then, I just expected both the front and back to be the same. To be sure wait for one of the Clio crew to answer.

For the clio crew - would the whole door panel have to be taken off to replace the speakers? Am I only limited to 10cm at the back witout buying a kit?

as far as im aware its 10cm at the back only but 13s should fit the front fine. youd be beter spending more on a set of good front speakers tbh, theres no need for rears

think about when you go to a conert you face the stage and thats were the music comes from, not behind you :)

you might wana check out www.cliosport.net

dont worry its not specificly for clio sports, i have a 1.2 and am a member on there :)

Hey,

Yes am a member of them. Just recently posted something quite similar.

You were correct, 10cm rear and 13cm front. As for the front - would I notice a big difference from the standard speakers?

What particular set do you recommend?

yes youd notice a massive difference with good speakers upfront, especially if you amped them but all depends how far you want to go really and what budget your on.

i personally have -

Pionner 6600r headunit
JBL 4 channel amp
infinity kappa 50.5cs (i think) component speakers
cheapo sony sub

even if you upgraded your front speakers to just some half decent coax speakers (no seperate tweeter) youd get a hell of an improvement sound wise combined with a new headunit. you can get a decent set of alpines for £30 + p&p if you look around on the net. :)

as good as you will get for the money, better off with a component set with tweeter and crossover, can be had for £50 I think, try caraudiosecurity.co.uk
I think I can link to that, apologies if I cant.
Depends what you want to spend.

Oh and I dont do back speakers, I dont sit in the back so I dont want to waste my moeny! just put better ones in the front.

These good?

Sorry for the noob questions, but considering my HU will do 4x50w - am guessing each speaker (the one about) will do 50w each?

As for the back speakers - what do you recommend?

I can gurantee your headunit doesn't do 4x50wRMS you'll be lucky to get half that and RMS ratings are what you want to look for peak ratings are useless.

I would recommend not having rear speakers at all I dont need them in a mondeo and the rear passengers can hear the music fine. :)

Oh? So I wont get 50w on each speaker?

Speaker Spec

HU Speck

So how much would I get from each speaker then?

that is 50 watt peak power, RMS Power is what you need and it is rarely posted on head units, but your looking at 18-25 watts per channel RMS.
Peak power means absolutley nothing, just big numbers marketing.

I have just put this setup in mine.... no using the head units amp at all.

Oakesy2001uk,

I have the SPS-171A's in my Focus. Good speakers, not much low down bass though but awesome higher end. I got them for £70 off ebay brand new.

live from battery
RCA lead from back of HU
Remote lead from HU
Speaker wire.
Earth to nearest decent earthig point.
Done, not brain science, spend a few hours taking carpet up etc... you wont even see the wires!

The HU I've posted, will it be good enough for an amp? Can I control the settings of the sub and rear speaker?

How much RMS do you think I can get if I just put 2 decent speakers at the front?

I've upgraded the front speakers with some alpines 13 cm.

I was thinking of getting a sub and some 6x9s. However I've heard this is not a good route. I was thinking about getting this.

Should I just put in some decent 10" at the rear and stick this?
