Hi,
I'm just about to install a CD player into my 97 Ibiza and thought that while im at it I should proabably upgrade the speakers. At present the speakers are standard VAG ones. 2 tweeters in the dash, 2 mid range in the doors. But the 6x4's in the boot have been removed by the previous owner.

I was just going to buy a half decent set of 6x9's and put them in the parcel shelf, however i've read a lot of negative stuff about 6X9's.

The headunit is £60, with only a £40 budget what would people recommend I do to improve the speakers, as they are currently fairly poor.

Get a set of Infinity components... second hand you can pick up a decent set of Reference series for £40. I got mine for £45.

Doubtful you'll find any Alpine comps for that price, and my Infinity speakers have given the clearest sound over the Pioneer and JBL speakers that I've heard.

Ok thanks, do you they give out a fair level of bass ? It would be the 6.5" I'd be looking at. Also I've read on a number of owners clubs, that for the money these are rebranded "rainbow" speakers or something and are fairly good for the money.

 Rebranded rainbows? At that price?

Need to get myself some then!

Yeah, the Infinity's aren't bad. They're certainly no 10" subwoofer, but if you set them up properly, they aren't bad at all.

No, wasn't being sarcastic. If they are actually rebranded Rainbows, I'd defo look into them out further. :)

I've ran my Infinity's off a budget Pioneer DEH-P3600MP and am now using a DEH-P80MP. There's a sheet of Dynamat behind each speaker, but I'm going to build MDF mounts tonight... eventually leading onto deadening the whole door and amping the speakers.

But yeah, running them off the HU is fine.
