Right I was playing with settings on my card last night and as I came out of the game (Civ IV) I saw CCC reporting GPU @ 105c! I just ignored it as a misreading as I'd never noticed it that high before...

Playing the same game again tonight and noticed the game starting going very jerky. So came out of the game and it's reporting the same temps. It drops very quickly once I'm out of the game, it's currently at 55c.

Other temps are CPU @ 42c and motherboard @ 35c

There's a 120mm fan drawing air in from front of case and blowing straight onto the card and also a 120mm blowing out the back.

I've RMA'd this card back to Ocuk once already as I think it's dodgy but they sent it back saying it's fine. I couldn't get it to stop turning itself off when installing Windows Vista as the fan kept stopping.

Surely 105c is a bit toasty? Especially as I paid a premium for a card with a top cooling solution.

might as well get the marshmallows out toast them over the nice warm GPU :)

on a more serious note, try installing speedfan as that notes GPU temps and see what that says. if we're still cooking get it RMA'd

have you checked the card its self, see if its running hot?
any cable clutter in the way disrupting airflow? is their decent airflow through your case?

Yes it's very hot, case is very tidy and as I said there's a 120mm fan pulling in directly onto the card and a 120mm fan blowing out. Case temp is only 36c. Tried it again today as the game stuttered I dropped to windows and took a screenie...

As you can see:

CPU = 45c
Case = 38c
GPU = 113c :eek:

Also the card is actually throttling at just 500/750 instead of 650/100 and fan @ 100%

That's pretty toasty - don't IceQ cards come with pretty decent coolers? You might want to check yours hasn't come loose or anything.

I only bought the card 1 month ago, had trouble, RMA'd it, had trouble.... finally got everything up and running last week (so it's basically 1 week old). This is the first time I've tried gaming with it.

Those temps are definitely not normal esp with ICEq cooling solution. Get it RMA'd. These cards run much cooler than the older ATI's. Also your case seems overly hot. I would look at bringing those temps a few degrees above room temp.

The card is throttled because its not in a 3d application when its in desktop - therfore it doesnt need full power :)

From memory my 4850iceq doesnt get above 80, but my case is at 25c. Id have to double check tho.

Just a stupid thought but is the exhaust grill clear of obstruction?

The case is not normally that warm, it's currently 28c. I think the fact there's a graphics card in there pumping out 113c might have had a bit to do with it lol :)

Sounds like either the cooler is not seated properly or the fan is not spinning.

Are you certain the fan is spinning?

I would expect the IceQ4 to stay around 60, maybe 70 tops while gaming

yeh that would do it! but the iceq should be pushing (most!) of that heat out the back. Id expect the rear grill could fry an egg.

not same card but 4670 turbo with iceQ turbo i had in decent vented case idled mid 30's and loaded 50-60c max, no way that should be at those temps

Even my x2 on auto fan only hits 90c after heavy benching on stock cooler!

That is an RMA

try enabling manual fan control and set it to 100% constant - see what effect that has. (aside form a wee bit mroe noise :) should see temps drop fairly rapidly unless there is a problem.
